When Life Gets Hard, These 3 Practices Help Me Keep Going

I’m learning that finding hope in difficult seasons isn’t about pretending everything is okay.

It’s about anchoring yourself in what is true when everything else feels uncertain.

For me that looks like:

🤍 Remembering that God has not changed.

🤍 Finding beauty in the ordinary moments.

🤍Bringing my honest emotions to God instead of hiding them

God is near to the brokenhearted. He is present in your pain. And there is still hope.

One key practice is consciously fixing my gaze—not on the problems or uncertainties—but on the One who remains constant amidst change. This intentional shift helped me reduce feelings of anxiety by providing a stable foundation for my thoughts and emotions. Another practice that changed my perspective is learning to romanticize or cherish small, everyday moments. Instead of letting difficult circumstances dominate my mindset, I started to take joy in simple blessings like a warm cup of coffee, a kind smile, or the beauty of nature during a walk. Focusing on these small, controllable details cultivates gratitude and steadies my spirit through hardship. Finally, permission to be honest with myself and with God has been essential. Initially, I tried to mask my pain by putting on a brave face. But allowing myself to fully express how I truly feel—not just what I think I should feel—opened up space for healing. Bringing my honest emotions into prayer or reflection helped me process grief and overwhelmed moments authentically without guilt. Together, these approaches reshape how you experience suffering. They don’t erase pain but anchor you in truth and hope. This mindset reminds us that suffering isn’t the final chapter; we can move forward with faith, presence, and honesty.
