I wanted to meal prep some healthy food for me that would also be safe and supportive to add to my dog’s food — who currently has an inoperable mast cell cancerous tumor.
It turns out I already had a lot of great foods & supplements in my kitchen that work amazing for this. I helped support my dad during a few difficult rounds of cancer over 10-11 years. I’m certain if he would have stuck to a more supportive diet, he would have enjoyed life with us even longer… so I continue to feed myself in generally the same manner.
Here is a recipe I came up with, along with the benefits of each ingredient for both humans and a dog with cancer:
WARNING — Do NOT feed this entire batch to your dog. Use it only as a topper (scooped out plain for them before you season yours). It’s especially helpful when mixing in meds or other powders. I made this as a meal prep for me primarily, but one that would also support my sweet Mr. Lou 🐾
Recipe (makes ~4–5 human servings, with plenty left for dog toppers):
• 1 pack ground Wagyu beef
• 1.5 Tbsp organic red palm oil
• 2 Tbsp turmeric powder
• ¼ Tbsp Ceylon cinnamon
• 4 full droppers Animal Essentials Detox Blend
• 4 organic red cabbage leaves, finely chopped
Benefits for humans & dogs with cancer:
Wagyu ground beef – High-quality protein + rich healthy fats for muscle maintenance and energy. For dogs: easy-to-digest complete protein that keeps weight on during treatment.
Organic red palm oil – Loaded with carotenoids (vitamin A), tocotrienols (super vitamin E), and antioxidants. For dogs: supports healthy inflammation response and provides calorie-dense energy without carbs.
Turmeric – Powerful anti-inflammatory curcumin that may help reduce oxidative stress. For dogs: well-studied for supporting comfort and apoptosis in cancer cells when paired with fat.
Ceylon cinnamon – Gentle antioxidant that helps balance blood sugar. For dogs: safe in tiny amounts and supports metabolic health on low-carb cancer diets.
Animal Essentials Detox Blend (burdock, dandelion, milk thistle, red clover, etc.) – Gentle liver & lymphatic support. Milk thistle is a favorite in integrative oncology for protecting the liver during treatments.
Organic red cabbage – One of the best cruciferous veggies; full of sulforaphane that supports liver detox and may inhibit cancer cell growth. For dogs: excellent fiber + anti-cancer compounds when lightly cooked.
For the pups I’m going to put it on top of some organic pumpkin puree — adds gentle fiber, supports digestion, helps with stool firmness, and makes the topper even more palatable and easy on a sensitive tummy.
How I make it:
Heat the red palm oil, brown the Wagyu with a little of the turmeric & cinnamon. Scoop out Mr. Lou’s plain portion early, mix in his micro-dose of spices + the detox drops + chopped cabbage, then serve it on top of some organic pumpkin puree. Season mine however I want (umami blend, extra turmeric, etc.). Cool and portion into the fridge. Use within 3 days or freeze plain beef portions.
This has become our little ritual — nourishing me while giving Mr. Lou extra love in every bite. If your pup is fighting cancer too, always run any new recipe by your oncologist or veterinary nutritionist first ❤️

Supporting a beloved pet through cancer challenges requires a thoughtful approach to nutrition, and combining that with self-care through meal prepping can be both healing and bonding. I found that using ingredients like organic red palm oil and turmeric not only boosts my immunity but also helps manage inflammation for my dog, who is battling an inoperable mast cell tumor. The antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds in these ingredients contribute to overall well-being. One key takeaway from my experience is the importance of portion control and ingredient safety for dogs—such as not seasoning their portion and adding a soothing base like organic pumpkin puree to help with digestion. This approach ensures the meals are gentle on sensitive stomachs while still providing valuable nutrients during cancer treatment phases. Additionally, incorporating detox blends with herbs like milk thistle and dandelion supports liver health, crucial when managing cancer and medication side effects. This holistic diet strategy helped me feel more empowered while closely caring for my dog, creating a meaningful ritual around food. For anyone in a similar position, consulting a veterinary oncologist or nutritionist before introducing new foods is essential. Beyond that, embracing superfoods and natural remedies can offer gentle support for both the person and their furry companion. Sharing these experiences fosters community and encourages others to explore beneficial dietary options for cancer care. Sharing love and nourishment through meals has truly been a cornerstone of our healing journey together.

This is lovely….thanks for sharing.
