Saw @AshleyAnn•Home•Life•Style post (go follow if you don’t already) about her hubby’s hobby and figured I’d share mine too. Joy? Absolutely. Obsession? Maybe just a little 😂
Okay, so like many of you, I totally saw @AshleyAnn•Home•Life•Style's post about her husband's hobby, and a lightbulb just went off! I was like, 'Yep, that's my life!' It got me thinking about that classic line: 'Tell me your husband's hobby is out of control... without telling me his hobby is out of control.' For me, it's a constant battle for space and sanity. Right now, our garage is basically a shrine to his latest obsession – vintage car parts. Seriously, I walk in there, and it's like a scavenger hunt just to find the lawnmower. One minute it's a small project, the next, there are engine blocks on the dining room table (okay, maybe not quite the dining room, but close!). It’s funny because when he’s in a 'new session' with a project, he's completely in his element, but my element is usually trying to navigate around the latest addition! It’s not just about the space, though, is it? It's the time, the budget, the sheer dedication! We're talking hours spent researching obscure parts online, late nights tinkering, and the occasional emergency trip to a specialty store in a town two hours away. I mean, I love that he has a passion, truly, but sometimes I wonder if his hobby has a hobby of its own, just expanding endlessly. I've heard stories from friends too. One's husband is a full-blown gaming enthusiast, with a setup that rivals a NASA control room. Another's partner got into collecting rare action figures, and their spare room is now a museum of plastic. It’s always something, right? From fishing gear that takes over the entire shed to elaborate homebrewing setups that demand constant attention. How do we, as partners, navigate this? For me, it’s a mix of humor, gentle negotiation, and sometimes just embracing the chaos. We've had to set some 'hobby zones' (the garage is his, the living room is mine, no engine parts allowed!). We also try to make sure we still have 'our time' that isn't overshadowed by the latest project. It’s a balance, and sometimes it's hard to find, especially when the enthusiasm is so infectious. Have you ever found yourself in similar shoes, scrolling through feeds like @that_blonde_wife thinking, 'Yup, that's us!'? What's your partner's 'out of control' hobby? And more importantly, how do you manage it without losing your mind (or your living room)? I'd love to hear your experiences and any clever ways you've found to keep the peace and enjoy the joy, even amidst the obsession.
