Not quite dead yet… ✨ Review

I finally crossed this one off my TBR. I broke down and used my Audible credit because I’m still several months out on all of my Libby holds & I don’t see it available in paperback anywhere.

Anyway… I rated “Not Quite Dead Yet” at 4.75; it was emotional, especially towards the end & I really, really had no clue on who murdered Jet!

This book is pretty unique. A young woman is brutally attacked in her home, is found just in time to be saved. Turns out, she’s not so lucky. Have a surgery with minimal surviving odds or live a week, and let an aneurysm take her out.

She takes the week & uses that week to solve her own murder.

I only didn’t rate this 5 stars because while I really enjoyed it, I didn’t LOVE it. I am not sure why. Maybe because the ending is so sad. 😭

... Read moreAfter finally diving into 'Not Quite Dead Yet' by Holly Jackson, I wanted to share a bit more about what made this book such a unique read for me. First off, the cover art really sets the mood – that striking blue brain-like design on a dark background immediately hints at the psychological depth and mystery within. It truly stands out on a bookshelf, whether you're browsing thrillers or young adult novels, and perfectly captures the eerie essence of the story. The premise itself is what drew me in: a woman, Jet, discovers she has only a week to live due to an aneurysm, and she decides to use that precious time to solve her own attempted murder. This ticking clock element creates an incredible sense of urgency and tension throughout the entire novel. You're constantly on edge, wondering if she'll piece it all together before time runs out. Holly Jackson truly masters the art of suspense, making every revelation feel critical. Speaking of the rating, I gave it a solid 4.75 stars. You might wonder why not a full 5, especially since I found it so gripping. Honestly, it came down to the ending. While incredibly well-written and impactful, it left me feeling a particular kind of sad that, for me, just nudged it slightly shy of a perfect score. It's not a flaw in the writing, just a personal preference for how I like my thrillers to conclude. However, it's definitely an ending that stays with you and sparks a lot of thought. For those who, like me, prefer audiobooks, I highly recommend experiencing 'Not Quite Dead Yet' this way. I used an Audible credit, and the narration truly enhanced the immersive quality of the story. The voice actor did a fantastic job of conveying Jet's desperation, determination, and vulnerability, making her journey even more palpable. It felt like I was right there with her, racing against the clock. The pacing of the audiobook is excellent, keeping you engaged through every twist and turn. Holly Jackson has a distinctive style that fans of her 'Good Girl's Guide to Murder' series will appreciate, though 'Not Quite Dead Yet' definitely stands on its own with its unique concept. It’s a compelling blend of mystery, psychological suspense, and emotional depth, making it a standout thriller that challenges your perceptions and keeps you guessing until the very last page. If you're looking for a book that's both a page-turner and deeply thought-provoking, this one is a must-add to your TBR.
