Beyond the candy fishing rod I crafted – which was a huge hit with its 'Sour Brite Crawlers' acting as 'Fish Bait' – there are so many other thoughtful DIY ideas. For instance, a personalized photo album filled with pictures of expectant parents, or even ultrasound photos, can be incredibly moving. Another idea, especially relevant for new dads, is creating a 'Daddy's Survival Kit' filled with things like coffee, snacks, and perhaps a funny 'new dad' instruction manual. I saw an amazing idea once for a handmade card that used a baby's footprint to create an 'axe head' design, with the message 'Dad, You're Nailing It!' – it was so clever and heartwarming, just like the one I saw that was dated 6/15/23 and signed 'Love, Colton'. Incorporating a baby's footprint or handprint into a gift is always a winner and makes for a cherished keepsake. You could even use those footprints to decorate a simple picture frame or a coffee mug. When your little one is in the NICU, Father's Day can feel a little different, but it doesn't have to be less special. Our visit to our sweet baby was the highlight of the day. We also took the time to write a 'Happy Father's Day message' to our baby's dad from our little one, which we'll save for them to read later.
