Locked Review

2025/3/28 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, so let's dive a little deeper into my thoughts on 'Locked.' As I mentioned, I gave it a solid 6 out of 10, and here's why that number felt right to me. From the get-go, the premise is intriguing: a man trapped in his car, controlled by a mysterious voice. It sets up a high-stakes thriller, and for a good chunk of the movie, it delivers on that tension. However, I did find myself nodding along with the sentiment that it was 'interesting but kinda boring' at times. The predictability was a big factor for me. While the performances, especially from the actor playing Eddie, were pretty good, the plot twists felt telegraphed. You could often see where things were headed, which somewhat deflated the suspense. It felt like a concept that had potential for more twists, but ultimately played it a bit safe. Speaking of performances, I have to touch on William Skarsgård's character. The notes I jotted down mentioned that 'William was annoying,' and I completely agree! His manipulative and cruel nature was unsettling, making you root even harder for Eddie. The dynamic between them, even when just through a voice, was central to the film's energy. And yes, that moment where Eddie shoots himself was quite a shock, adding to the unexpected brutality and raising the stakes for his survival. The film really leaned into some visceral moments. My reaction notes included 'It was brutal seeing Eddie break a nail and disgusting seeing Him drink His own piss.' And honestly, these scenes stuck with me. They really underscored the desperation and extreme conditions Eddie was under. You could almost feel the pain and revulsion, making his struggle incredibly personal and effective. The constant presence of 'cameras in the car' also added a chilling layer of surveillance, making Eddie's predicament feel inescapable and violating. The climax of the film was truly intense. Watching William ruthlessly 'run over people' and then almost 'run over Eddie's daughter' was heart-stopping. It really cranked up the emotional stakes and made the final confrontation feel incredibly personal. Then, when Eddie finally manages to 'rip out the cameras' and 'turn the car off and make It wreck,' that moment of defiance and struggle for control was incredibly satisfying. The desperation to protect his daughter was palpable, making his final escape from the car and reunion with her a much-needed breath of relief. Overall, 'Locked' is a mixed bag. It has its moments of genuine tension and brutal realism, driven by solid acting and a compelling premise. But it's also hampered by a certain predictability that keeps it from being truly great. If you're looking for a contained thriller with some shocking moments and don't mind a somewhat straightforward plot, it might be worth a watch. Just don't go in expecting revolutionary storytelling.
