Okay, so you've got the basics down from Part 1 and this article, but I've realized there's always more to learn to truly master the Lightning Lane system. From my recent Walt Disney World vacation, I picked up a few extra insights that I wish I'd known sooner, especially concerning those crucial first few hours in the park. One of the biggest 'aha!' moments for me was understanding the refresh trick. If you're trying to snag a popular ride like Slinky Dog Dash or Peter Pan's Flight and don't see the return time you want, don't just give up! Keep refreshing the My Disney Experience app. Sometimes, return times for Lightning Lane spots pop up unexpectedly as other guests modify or cancel their plans. I managed to grab a much-earlier slot for Test Track this way, saving us a huge chunk of time! It felt like a small victory, honestly. Another tip I can't stress enough is to have a clear strategy for your Individual Lightning Lane (ILL) purchases. Remember, these are separate from Genie+ and are for the most in-demand attractions. My family always discusses our top 2-3 must-do rides before we even leave for the park. On our last trip, we knew we absolutely had to ride Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. We prioritized buying those ILLs right at 7 AM, even before attempting to get our first Genie+ selection. It's a small investment that truly makes a difference for those bucket-list experiences. I've seen so many people miss out because they hesitated or didn't plan ahead for these. And speaking of planning, don't underestimate the power of stacking! While you can only book one Genie+ Lightning Lane at a time (after you’ve tapped into your current one, or after 120 minutes, whichever comes first), you can strategically 'stack' them for later in the day. For example, I might book a Peter Pan’s Flight for 10 AM, and then while I'm waiting for that window, I can book a Space Mountain for 2 PM if 120 minutes have passed. This allows you to accumulate several Lightning Lane reservations for the afternoon and evening, turning what could be a long wait into a breezy experience. It takes a little practice to get the timing right, but once you do, it's a game-changer! I felt like a pro navigating the park with minimal waits thanks to this. Finally, a common mistake I've observed (and sometimes made myself!) is not checking the wait times for standby lines. Sometimes, especially early in the morning or late in the evening, shorter standby waits might make using a Lightning Lane for that particular ride unnecessary, freeing up your Genie+ selection for something where the wait is truly substantial. Always do a quick comparison – it’s a simple step that can save a valuable Lightning Lane booking for later. These few extra steps in planning and execution really elevate your Disney day from good to absolutely fantastic. Happy planning!
