How does God speak to you? ✝️

I know how frustrating it can feel when you're longing to hear from God but nothing seems clear. We often expect an audible voice, like in movies, but my experience (and what I've learned from others!) shows God communicates in so many profound and personal ways. It’s like learning a new language – it takes time and practice, but it's incredibly rewarding. So, how does God speak to us, and how can we learn to discern His voice? One of the most foundational ways God speaks, as my friends and I often discuss, is through His Word, the Bible. It's truly His living word, a letter written directly to us. When I'm feeling lost or need guidance, I open my Bible, turn my worries into prayers, and meditate on scripture. It's amazing how a verse can jump out and speak directly to my situation, bringing peace and clarity. This is a foolproof method for a reason – it's consistent and always aligns with His character. Beyond scripture, God often speaks through the Holy Spirit. These are often quiet whispers, promptings, or an undeniable sense of peace about a decision. I've also heard of friends experiencing dreams and even visions, though those are less common for me personally. The Holy Spirit can also bring confirmation, a gentle nudge that you're on the right path or that a thought truly is from God. It’s a feeling of inner knowing that settles your spirit. God also uses people and wise counsel. Sometimes, a friend or mentor will say just the right thing, or you'll find wisdom in a community like a Christian Sisterhood. Hearing their experiences of how God speaks to them can open your eyes to new possibilities in your own life. He can also communicate through circumstances and nature. Have you ever noticed how doors open or close in unexpected ways, guiding you? Or how a moment of awe in nature can feel like a direct message of His love and power? These are not coincidences. Prayer and worship are also powerful avenues. When I engage in heartfelt prayer, pouring out my heart, I often find answers or a sense of direction come to me. Music during worship can also be incredibly profound, with lyrics speaking directly to my soul, making me feel closer to Him. Even our thoughts can be a channel, but it’s crucial to discern: are these thoughts aligned with His Word? Do they bring peace, require faith, and ultimately glorify Him? This leads us to how we can truly know if something is from God. To ensure we're hearing God's voice and not just our own desires or external noise, I rely on a few characteristics. Does what I'm hearing or feeling align with His Word? Does it bring peace to my spirit? Does it require faith and draw me closer to Him? Does it glorify Him? Does it drive wisdom, move me to love and serve others, and demand trust? If the answer is yes to these, then it's a strong indicator. It's about 'filling your cup' in the Lord through worship, quiet time, journaling, and meditating on scripture. The more time we spend with Him, the better we recognize His unique voice in our lives. It’s a beautiful journey of intimacy and learning to trust.
