my boyfriend and i have been together for a year and a half and he’s always talked about wanting to upgrade his style to a kind of old money / streetwear in between. he made a pinterest board for himself which i added some pins on! :)
i’ve gotten him some things over the past year but i figured this summer i would really try to just spend some time shopping for him.
i went to zara, cotton on, h&m, aeropostale, urban outfitters, and pacsun. they all have great men’s sizes and a variety of styles + fourth of july sales! 🇺🇸
so in addition to the clothing, he does have some jewelry i’ve gotten him for anniversary’s + christmas + such, as well as basic studs for his pierced ears but i just got him some little hoops which i thought were cute and a good thing for him to have in his closet.
as for shoes, i like the basic colors that go with a lot. he has the top left nike dunks as well as basic black converse, etc. but in most of the photos on pinterest, i’ve noticed new balance or rebook - (we’re actually gonna get the same rebook ones!)
this is really just the start but i thought it would be helpful for anyone out there who doesn’t know where to start with helping their partner style themselves the way they want.
next it’s time to redo my closet! 🥹🫶🏻
comment below if you’re gonna do this with ur partner + which tops you like the best out of the ones i got.
... Read moreHey Lemon8 fam! So many of you asked about the process of upgrading my boyfriend's style, and I'm thrilled to share more behind the scenes and practical tips. It's been such a fun journey, not just for his wardrobe, but for us as a couple!
Finding His Perfect Vibe: Beyond Just Trends
When we first talked about his style, he mentioned wanting an “old money meets streetwear” aesthetic. This blend is so cool – it’s about timeless sophistication mixed with an urban edge. We started by building a Pinterest board (just like my “Mens outfits emily’s picks” one you saw!), which is honestly the best first step. Don’t just look for generic “men’s fashion”; try more specific searches. For example, if you're trying to achieve a certain vibe like a rugged yet polished look, think about elements you admire in specific celebrity styles. It's not about copying, but drawing inspiration from confidence and fit. What kind of jacket does he wear? Are his t-shirts crisp or relaxed? What sneaker styles does he gravitate towards? This really helps define his unique boyfriend look style.
Pinterest: Your Ultimate Style Assistant for Every Occasion
Speaking of Pinterest, it’s not just for finding general outfit ideas. It's a goldmine for any specific style quest you might have! Want to explore how to incorporate a beige jacket into multiple outfits? Or how to rock cargo pants without looking too casual? Pinterest has endless examples. Even if you're curious about, say, finding inspiration for stylish yet functional outdoor looks (think hiking outfits pinterest), you can create a dedicated board and explore how urban streetwear elements can translate into comfortable, fashionable gear for casual adventures. It's all about using those specific keywords – “urban streetwear men,” “smart casual outfits,” “rugged men’s fashion” – to unlock a world of ideas. I found so much inspo for different high-tops and low-tops there!
Couples' Fashion: Dressing Together, Feeling Closer
For us, this style journey wasn't just about clothes; it was about spending quality time together and really understanding each other's preferences. It's amazing how styling your partner can deepen your connection! We started coordinating subtle elements – maybe not matching outfits perfectly, but opting for similar color palettes or complementary styles. Couple relationship status fashion urban doesn't mean you have to be twins! It’s more about looking cohesive and feeling good together. For example, if he’s rocking a cool graphic t-shirt and some fresh Nike Dunks, I might choose an outfit with similar urban vibes or an accessory that echoes his look. It's a playful way to express your bond through fashion in an urban setting without being cheesy.
Must-Have Pieces for an Elevated Wardrobe
To really nail that old money/streetwear blend, certain pieces are essential:
Tops: Beyond basic t-shirts, invest in quality polo shirts and crisp button-down shirts for that old money polish. Don't underestimate the power of a well-fitting black t-shirt for streetwear vibes.
Outerwear: A versatile beige jacket (like the one I got him!) is a game-changer. It can be dressed up or down effortlessly. A stylish denim or utility jacket also adds that streetwear edge.
Bottoms: Well-fitting jeans are a must. For a touch of streetwear and practicality, stylish cargo pants (which I spotted on many Pinterest boards) are fantastic. Tailored chinos also work wonders.
Footwear: My boyfriend already had Nike Dunks and Converse, but we explored New Balance and Reebok for comfort and style variety. Both high-tops and low-tops have their place in this aesthetic.
Accessories: Don't forget jewelry! A simple silver chain can add an instant cool factor. For pierced ears, subtle hoops or classic studs can elevate a look. Even a stylish baseball cap can perfectly tie a streetwear outfit together.
It’s an ongoing process, but seeing him feel more confident and stylish makes it so rewarding! Give it a try with your partner, and let me know how it goes!
