📍 seattle museum of pop culture :)

... Read moreStepping into the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) in Seattle felt like entering a portal to another world, especially with the captivating Coraline exhibit. As a huge fan of stop-motion animation, seeing the actual pieces that brought one of my favorite films to life was an absolute dream come true. The highlight for me, without a doubt, was getting an up-close look at the incredible replacement faces used for Coraline herself, and even for the Other Mother. It’s truly astounding to learn just how revolutionary LAIKA’s approach was for Coraline. They pioneered the use of 3D-printing technology in replacement animation, which completely transformed what was possible in the medium. Before this, animators relied on a few hundred hand-sculpted faces to convey emotions and dialogue. But for Coraline, the numbers are mind-boggling! There were an astonishing 207,336 possible face combinations for Coraline alone, and 17,633 for the Mother. Seeing these intricate, tiny sculptures displayed, each one a fraction of a second in the final film, made me appreciate the painstaking artistry and innovation behind every frame. It’s not just about creating a character; it’s about crafting an entire universe of subtle expressions. This technology wasn't just a gimmick; it allowed animators to create groundbreaking performances with an unprecedented level of detail and nuance. The ability to swap out such a vast array of 3D-printed faces meant Coraline could express a much wider range of emotions, making her character feel incredibly vivid and real, despite being a puppet. It adds so much depth to the storytelling when you realize the sheer technical prowess involved in achieving every blink, every smirk, and every gasp. It truly elevates the art form to new heights, proving that stop-motion is far from an outdated technique. For anyone searching for a 'museo de Coraline' experience, MoPOP offers something truly special. It’s more than just seeing movie props; it’s a journey into the heart of creativity and technological advancement in filmmaking. You get to witness the magic behind the scenes, understanding the meticulous planning and dedication that goes into such a masterpiece. It's inspiring to see how artists and technicians collaborated to push the boundaries of what animation could achieve. My visit reaffirmed my love for Coraline and the incredible world LAIKA built. If you ever find yourself in Seattle, I highly recommend a stop at MoPOP, especially if they have an animation exhibit running. It’s an eye-opening experience that gives you a newfound appreciation for the films we love and the brilliant minds who bring them to life. Truly a must-see for any film buff or animation enthusiast!

This was such a cute bookstore. They had so many older vintage books. They had 7 cats that live in the store, all of which were rescues. If you’re ever in the area I 10/10 recommended going. Seattle #catsoflemon8 #books #booksotre #vintage #travel #digitaldiary #newlemonintown #res
