First stop: Japan 🇯🇵 🍜

Because… have you seen what’s coming in 2026?!

Japan has always been at the top of our travel list (I mean the food? the culture? the vibes? yes please!) — but we’re bumping it to the top because starting in 2026, things are changing 👀

🛍️ Tax-free shopping? No longer so seamless. You’ll have to pay up front and deal with refunds later.

🧳 Shipping goodies home? Nope. Not tax-free anymore after April 2025.

🏨 And Kyoto is upping its hotel tax big time. Like, up to $67 per night 😬

So we’re going now before all that kicks in. Catch us sipping matcha and living our Studio Ghibli dreams before it costs double 😌💸💚

Anyone been recently + have recs? 👇

Kyoto
2025/4/16 Edited to

... Read moreJapan has long been a dream destination for many travelers, and with its rich culture, stunning landscapes, and delicious cuisine, it’s no wonder. As we approach 2026, several upcoming legislative changes are set to impact travel experiences. One of the significant changes is the hotel tax increase in Kyoto, where travelers may face costs of up to $67 per night. This has sparked concern among tourists eager to experience the city’s historic temples, beautiful gardens, and vibrant streets. Moreover, tax-free shopping will see shifts in how tourists manage purchases, requiring upfront payments and refunds to be processed later, which can be a hassle for travelers looking to enjoy a seamless experience. Additionally, the policy on shipping goods home will also become more restrictive, making it essential to consider these factors while planning your trip. This information should motivate you to visit Japan sooner rather than later. Exploring iconic sites, enjoying local delicacies like ramen and matcha, and experiencing cultural hotspots while they remain accessible is key. With sights like the Fushimi Inari Shrine, the bustling streets of Tokyo, and the peaceful ambiance of Kyoto, now is the perfect opportunity to create unforgettable memories. Engaging with locals and fellow travelers can lead to unique experiences. Ask for recommendations on hidden gems, traditional dishes, or cultural experiences that go beyond the typical itinerary. Whether it’s participating in tea ceremonies, attending festivals, or simply enjoying the serene beauty of cherry blossoms, the memories made will last a lifetime. As you plan your adventure, consider writing down a list of must-see places and experiences to make the most of your trip. Traveling to Japan ahead of these changes ensures you enjoy the best of what this incredible country has to offer.
