My fellow healthcare workers… which one sets you off the most?? 😅
For me it’s gotta be taking a phone call mid-visit, instant blood boil. But antivax and refusing to even hear me out is a VERY close second 🤯
Tell me I’m not alone 🫠#familynursepractitioner #familymedicine #concierge #antivaxx #healthcareworker
As a healthcare worker myself, I can deeply relate to the frustrations shared here. One of the toughest things about being on the frontlines is maintaining a connection with patients during their appointments. Phone calls mid-visit are not just distracting but also undermine our ability to provide focused care. It often feels like the respect in the doctor-patient relationship is compromised when attention is divided. Another challenge that resonates strongly is dealing with patients who embrace antivax beliefs or who outright refuse to hear evidence-based advice. This can be emotionally draining, especially when you want nothing more than to help and protect their health. I've found that patience and empathy are vital, but sometimes it feels like you're hitting a wall. From my experiences, patients demanding antibiotics for minor viral infections, like a two-day runny nose, also test our professionalism and commitment to responsible care. Educating patients about when antibiotics are necessary is crucial to prevent resistance and provide effective treatment. Interestingly, I’ve noticed that hesitancy around newborn care, such as parents declining vitamin K, also adds to the challenges. It’s a delicate balance between respecting parental choice and advocating for evidence-based practices. These situations underscore the importance of ongoing communication skills and resilience in healthcare. Sharing stories and strategies with fellow practitioners, as in this forum, is invaluable. You're definitely not alone in feeling these frustrations, and support from peers can make all the difference in navigating these challenging encounters.
