Picking a project up after a break

So... I took a break from this pokemon inspired cardigan mid-project to make a Valentine's Day cardigan for my partner, and I forgot that half of this cardigan was made with a smaller hook (again).

Rather than wind a cake up, I chose to just pull from the side that wasn't the right size.

I make my cardigans with a 6mm hook. Maybe I should get more of them, just in case?

What's your favorite sized hook?

I've found that one of the biggest challenges is remembering what materials and tools you were using—especially if you’ve mixed up hook sizes, like switching between a 6mm hook and a smaller one without noticing. Sometimes, I accidentally use mismatched hooks and only spot it midway through the project, which means some parts don’t match perfectly. A useful tip I’ve learned is to keep a dedicated set of hooks for each project or buy multiples of your favorite size. This way, you avoid confusion and maintain consistency in your work. When picking up a project after a break, it helps to review your notes or photos of your previous progress. This can jog your memory about the stitch patterns, hook size, and yarn type. If you pull yarn from the wrong end of a skein, don’t worry—though it might feel inefficient initially, it can save you the hassle of rewinding if you're eager to continue quickly. Personally, I’ve opted to just pull from whichever side is accessible, especially when finishing a project on a tight schedule. Another tip is to set small, manageable goals for your first days back—maybe just one sleeve or a particular section—to build momentum and regain your rhythm. Engaging with crochet communities online, like those focusing on slow fashion or themed projects such as Pokémon-inspired designs, can be motivating and provide valuable support. Finally, don’t forget to enjoy the process. Picking up where you left off not only furthers your creative projects but also offers a sense of achievement and relaxation. Whether you prefer larger hooks like 6mm for quick work or smaller hooks for intricate details, find what feels right for you and keep the creativity flowing.

A woman kneels in prayer amidst broken chains, symbolizing breaking free from habits and strongholds. The background transitions from a stormy, rocky landscape to a bright, open doorway. Text reads: "I HAD TO BREAK WHAT I WAS COMFORTABLE CARRYING" and "I HAD TO LET GO OF MY HABITS & STRONGHOLDS... TO STEP INTO MY FREEDOM. 2 Cornichians 10:6-6".
I Had to Break What I Was Comfortable Carrying
Let me be real with you, Sisters… Some of the things I called “just who I am” were actually strongholds I refused to confront. Habits I protected. Patterns I excused. Cycles I kept repeating… then prayed about like I had no part in them. I wanted freedom… but I didn’t want to let go of

Embroidery | First Project
This is my first ever piece of embroidery. I barely hand sew so this was definitely a learning curve to do. I began with learning how to do the French Knots. This piece took me about three months to finish. Overall very fun to learn and I will be picking this hobby up again soon. 🪡 Note:
