On our lookout for furniture, we started getting ads on social media about wood slabs furniture. Slabs are extremely pretty, giving a nice vibe to your house!
We started off without any knowledge about wood, and almost got scammed at Tan Boon Liat by a notorious shop. Thankfully, we didn’t get pressured by their tactics and eventually found a wood slab from a local sg shop!
In sg, there are several well known wood shops and we visited:
Each have their strengths, and we’ve done a comparison in the slides above! There’s also a very well known shop called Table Guy which we didn’t visit, but they also have a very good reputation for having quality wood slab tables.
Eventually we bought our wood slab from KST Singapore. After visiting so many slab shops, this was the first shop where we immediately fell in love with the slab we saw and bought it on the spot!
Hopefully this guide on wood furniture is useful, feel free to drop a comment or DM if you have any questions! ☺️
... Read moreIf you're new to wood slab furniture, understanding the differences between popular wood types like Suar, Mahogany, Teak, and American Walnut is crucial. Suar, known for its bold grains and quick growth, offers larger, more affordable slabs but has a more vibrant look. In contrast, Mahogany and Teak grow slower, have intricate grains, and generally create a subtler and elegant appeal.
When buying wood slabs in Singapore, it's important to visit reputable shops such as Scanteak, Grey & Sanders, Woodman, Asia Passion, and KST Singapore. Each shop has its unique strengths; for example, KST focuses on locally sourced Singapore trees and provides detailed explanations of wood crafting and maintenance. Always be cautious of overly good deals and high-pressure sales tactics—as we learned, some shops may misrepresent the wood type or quality.
Maintenance is key to preserving the beauty of your natural wood slab. Wood expands and contracts with temperature changes, so cracks or warping can occur. Most sellers do not cover these natural occurrences in their warranties, so ask before purchasing. Regular oiling once a year and promptly cleaning spills will help maintain your table’s finish. Avoid placing hot items directly on the surface to prevent burn marks.
Choosing live edge slabs preserves the wood's natural border and uniqueness, while options like bookmarked or panelled slabs provide wider surfaces by joining two or more pieces. Live edges showcase the wood’s organic shape, perfect for adding character to your home.
Overall, investing time in researching wood characteristics, trusted stores, and care instructions will ensure you find a wood slab table that truly enhances your living space.
