🏠✨ Part 2: Tiling Progress

POV: You've been waiting for the hacking to end so the nice stuff can finally start 😭

Finally started tiling and I'm OBSESSED.

We're retiling the entire flat, including all the bedrooms, toilets, kitchen and yard. We decided to go with 1200x1200 large format tiles throughout the house and honestly... no regrets. I know large format tiles aren't the cheapest option, but just look at those grout lines 😭 The seamless look is SO worth it.

The tiles are massive though. It actually took 3 people to help lay some of them, and each tile is almost as tall as my tiler 😂 I was genuinely shocked when I saw him carrying one on his own because HOW??

Installing large format tiles isn't easy either. They're heavy, fragile and need a lot of skill to get right. That's why I'm extra thankful for our tiler. The amount of care he puts into his work is honestly amazing. Constantly wiping the tiles, checking every detail and treating them more carefully than I probably would 🥲 Every tile was carefully handled, cleaned, checked, and aligned before being laid.

Seeing everything come together now makes all the dust, hacking, and chaos worth it 🥹 Can't stop staring at them every time we visit the site 🤭

Tiling is almost done, which means we're moving on to the next phase soon 👀

... Read moreRetiling a whole home with large format tiles like 1200x1200 definitely brings unique challenges and rewards. From my own experience, although these tiles might seem daunting due to their size and weight, the look they create is unmatched. The minimal grout lines give a clean, almost seamless feel that really opens up the space and adds a sense of luxury. It’s true, these tiles require skilled installers because they’re heavy and fragile, so hiring experienced tilers is essential to avoid breakage and ensure perfect alignment. One tip I learned is to prepare the floor surface meticulously before laying such large tiles, as any unevenness can cause cracks or lippage. It also helps to plan the tile layout carefully, taking into account natural light and room dimensions to highlight the tile’s travertine look or patterns. Another advantage is that because the tiles are so large, fewer cuts are needed in rooms, reducing waste. Watching the tilers work was fascinating; seeing them handle tiles almost as big as themselves with such care reminded me how much craftsmanship goes into a good renovation. Maintaining clean grout lines and carefully wiping each tile during installation really made the difference in the final finish. In rooms like common toilets, mixing playful terrazzo prints with large tiles can bring personality without clutter. For anyone considering a full home re-tiling, especially in resale flats where you want maximum impact, investing in large-format tiles pays off in visual appeal and future resale value. Despite the heavy lifting and complexity, the results speak for themselves with a sleek, modern, and durable flooring option that makes all the dust and disruption worthwhile. Looking forward to seeing the next phase of your renovation journey!

Hello!!! Sorry for the mini hiatus as we last minute went on a mini-moon hehe. For week 2 & 3 of our reno i would say there wasn’t much of a progress, mainly tiling! Guess our timeline got pushed back a lil’ due to tiling as it’s a one man show, and the tiler fell sick during the first few

Tiling works
Tiling works may look simple, but it’s all about details. From big 900x900 tiles to small tiles, every piece needs precise alignment and leveling. Big tiles need extra care to ensure a flat surface with minimal lippage, while small tiles demand patience and consistency to keep patterns neat and

Tile choices that made all the difference ✨
Reno Week ✌🏻 1) We dropped by the house mid week and again at the end of the week. Tiling works are now done!! 😻 We love how our common bathroom’s new full height wall and niche turned out. We intentionally chose 90 x 90cm tiles for our living room and dining area and it’s 100% worth the top up. W
