Hairstylist thoughts
What about yall?!
You know, when I'm standing behind the chair, it's not just about cutting and coloring – it's a whole thought process! My original post was super short, but I wanted to dive deeper into what truly goes into creating amazing hair, and what makes us hairstylists tick. So, let's talk about those core factors and some fun insights into our world. First off, I always focus on 3 FACTORS WHEN DOING YOUR HAIR: BALANCE, LONGEVITY, and HAIR HEALTH. These aren't just buzzwords; they're the foundation of my craft. BALANCE: This is key! It's about more than just symmetry. It's about balancing your hair color with your skin tone, your haircut with your face shape, and the overall style with your lifestyle. For instance, if you have fine hair, we need to balance volume with texture. If you're going for a bold color, I consider how it will balance with your natural regrowth and maintenance. A truly balanced look feels natural and effortless, enhancing your features without overpowering them. It takes a keen eye and understanding of aesthetics – a skill we hone over years! LONGEVITY: Nobody wants their new 'do to last only a few days, right? When I say longevity, I’m talking about how well your color holds, how your cut grows out, and how easily you can recreate the style at home. This means choosing the right products, applying color meticulously, and understanding hair elasticity and porosity. I’m always thinking ahead: "Will this cut still look great in 6-8 weeks?" or "How can I formulate this color to fade beautifully instead of brassy?" It’s part science, part art, and all about giving you lasting satisfaction. HAIR HEALTH: This is probably the most important factor for me. Beautiful hair is healthy hair. Period. Before I even pick up the scissors or mixing bowl, I assess your hair's condition. Are we dealing with damage? Is it dry, brittle, or over-processed? My goal is to always leave your hair in better condition than when you sat down. This might mean recommending specific treatments, using bond builders, or even advising against a particular chemical service if your hair isn't ready. For me, it’s a commitment to ensuring your hair is strong, shiny, and vibrant – not just for today, but for the long run. Beyond these three factors, what else makes a great hairstylist? Well, we wear many hats! Active Listening: This is crucial. I need to truly hear what you want, even if you can't quite articulate it, and then translate that into a viable plan. Problem-Solving: Every head of hair is a unique puzzle. We're constantly troubleshooting, whether it's correcting a previous color disaster or figuring out how to achieve a desired look with challenging hair types. Creativity & Vision: We need to be able to visualize the final result and then have the technical skills to bring that vision to life. Education & Adaptability: The hair industry is always evolving. New techniques, products, and trends emerge constantly. A good stylist is always learning and adapting. Empathy & Connection: We're often more than just stylists; we're confidantes! Building a connection with clients makes the whole experience so much better. And here’s a little fun fact for you: Did you know many hairstylists can tell a lot about your lifestyle just by looking at your hair? From how often you wash it to whether you use heat tools daily, your hair tells a story! Also, sometimes we secretly judge your shampoo choice just a little bit (kidding, mostly!). But seriously, we truly care about your hair, and those 3 factors – BALANCE, LONGEVITY, and HAIR HEALTH – are always top of mind to ensure you leave feeling fantastic. What are your thoughts about what makes a great salon experience?
