3 Uses For Left Over Coffee Grounds

3 Uses For Left Over Coffee Grounds

I make a lot of coffee and constantly am throwing out left over coffee grounds. So I decided to look into ways I can use left over coffee grounds instead of throwing them away to reduce waste. Here are 3 uses for left over coffee grounds that I found.

1. Put left over coffee grounds in bowl and set in your fridge as a natural deodorizer. I found that this helped reduce the smells in the fridge a lot actually.

2. Add coffee grounds to the soil of your plants as a natural fertilizer. I tried this in the soil of my monstera and so far so good.

3. Make a coffee scrub by combining sugar, melted coconut oil, coffee grounds, and vanilla. I made a scrub for my hands and loved the smell and feel of my skin after so I definitely recommend it!

Let me know if you have any other uses that I didn’t list and I’ll try them out! I am looking for more!

... Read moreI used to make so much coffee and just toss the grounds, feeling guilty about the waste. But after some digging, I found so many brilliant ways to give those leftover coffee grounds a second life! It's amazing how a simple habit change can make such a difference. My top three uses have become staples in my home, and I'm excited to share more of what I've learned! Transforming Your Garden with Coffee Ground Fertilizer My Monstera loves coffee grounds, but I've learned a few tricks since then! For potted plants and indoor plants, it's best to mix dry, used coffee grounds lightly into the topsoil. Don't just dump a thick layer on top, as it can compact and prevent water absorption, leading to mold. A light sprinkle every few weeks works wonders. The key is to use used grounds, as fresh ones can be too acidic for most plants. They slowly release nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus, which are fantastic for leafy greens and acid-loving plants like roses or blueberries (though my Monstera is thriving with them!). I've also heard from fellow plant parents that sprinkling coffee grounds around plants can help deter common garden pests like slugs and snails. The gritty texture acts as a barrier, and the caffeine is a natural repellent. While I haven't personally had a slug problem to test this, it's a natural and eco-friendly method worth trying for those pesky critters! Banish Fridge Odors Naturally Using a clear glass bowl of coffee grounds in the fridge is seriously a game-changer! I put mine towards the back, and it absorbs all those lingering smells from last night's takeout or forgotten veggies. I find that replacing the grounds every week or two keeps my fridge smelling super fresh. You can even place a small dish of them in your pantry or under the sink for a subtle, earthy scent that combats mustiness. It's so much better than chemical air fresheners, and it's practically free! Indulge in a DIY Coffee Scrub for Glowing Skin That coffee scrub? Seriously addictive! Beyond just hands, I've started using it as a full-body exfoliant in the shower. The caffeine is said to temporarily tighten skin and reduce the appearance of cellulite, and the exfoliating action leaves my skin feeling incredibly soft and smooth – much like a spa treatment. My simple recipe is just equal parts used coffee grounds and sugar, then enough melted coconut oil to make a paste, and a splash of vanilla extract for that amazing aroma. I store it in a sealed jar, ready for whenever I need a little pampering. Beyond the 3: More Eco-Friendly Ideas I'm Exploring Since I asked for more ideas, I've been experimenting! Did you know coffee grounds can also be used as a gentle abrasive cleaner? I've used a small amount on my kitchen sink to scrub away grime, and it works surprisingly well without scratching. Just make sure to rinse thoroughly. They're also fantastic for composting, adding valuable nitrogen to your compost pile, which helps everything break down faster. I collect mine from my espresso station organizer every day now – it's become a habit! It’s such a rewarding feeling to know I'm reducing waste and finding so many practical uses for something I used to just throw away!
