Doing my own hair!

I have had pink in my hair for 6 years. This year I tried to do it myself instead of going to the salon every 3 months. I will not be spending money on the salon to dye my hair this year and happy to be saving ageless $800.00!

... Read moreHey everyone! 👋 You know how much I love my pink hair, but those salon visits every three months? They really add up! After spending years getting my vibrant pink streaks professionally done, I decided 2024 was the year I'd tackle my hair color at home. And guess what? It's been a game-changer for my wallet! I was spending around $200 per salon visit for my color refresh, which, multiplied by four visits a year, comes out to $800! This year, I've managed to keep my long dark hair looking fantastic with DIY products costing less than $50 for the whole year. That's a massive saving, and I'm so proud of my self-dyed hair. It feels incredibly empowering to achieve salon-quality results without breaking the bank. Want to know how I did it and how you can save too? First, let's talk about the savings. My calculation is pretty straightforward: my average salon bill was $200 for color, plus tip. Doing it myself involves buying a good quality pink dye and a developer, which together cost me about $40-50. That's it! If you factor in the money saved on travel to the salon or even a coffee while you wait, the savings grow even more. Annually, this puts over $750 back into my pocket, which is incredible. For anyone considering DIY hair color, my best advice is to do your research! Watch tutorials, read reviews, and always do a strand test. I prepped by protecting my bathroom floor and wearing an old shirt. Applying the pink dye to my dark hair for those vibrant streaks took a bit of patience, but the result was totally worth it. The key is to section your hair properly and work in small batches for even coverage. My pink streaks have never looked better! Beyond just coloring, there are so many other ways to save on hair care. Have you ever considered learning to braid your own hair? I've been practicing different braiding techniques, and it’s amazing how much you can save on styling appointments. Instead of going to a salon for an elaborate updo or even a simple blowout, mastering a few braids can give you gorgeous, professional-looking styles right at home. Braiding is also fantastic for protecting your hair, especially for long hair like mine, reducing damage from heat styling and keeping those vibrant colors locked in. Plus, it's a fun skill to learn! Whether it’s coloring your hair or trying out new styling methods like braiding, taking hair care into your own hands can lead to significant savings and a real sense of accomplishment. Give it a try – you might surprise yourself like I did!
