Green flags in a guy to look out for

What I thought was a healthy relationship I had previously, turned out to be a toxic one. It was only after meeting my new partnee that I realized how toxic my previous relationship was.

Despite how my parents were against our relationship (especially because he isnt a PR), I got together with him because I saw alot of green flags in him.

1. He is consistent in his communication

He makes an effort to communicate with me even when he is busy. We dont constantly text each other because of our busy schedule but we will reply each other when we are free.

Even though we dont report our every movement to each other, at the end of the day he will share his daily work woes to me and I am grateful for that.

2. He pays attention to everything that I say

The main thing that attracted me to him is this. I liked the fact that he remembers the tinest details I share with him. During one of the dates (before we got together), one of the dishes that we ordered had coriander and he automatically removed it because he remember that I didnt like it. And that really touched me.

Even when I share reels of cafes or places that I want to eat (be it in sg or jb), he will save it in his google map and will plan to bring me to those places whenever we meet up or when I go to JB to find him 🥺🥺

3. He is willing to spend money on me

He volunteers to pay for our meal and never asks me to pay him back. I appreciate the gesture but of course I wont always let him pay for our meals so usually I will offer to pay for our tea break or snacks. And on my birthday, he bought me a pretty pricey bag for me just cause I told him I wanted that. And in return, I got him a decent wallet for him as a christmas present since he has been using his wallet for over 10 years alr.

4. He makes effort to do things that I enjoy with me

Im more of a musical and artesy kind of person, so I enjoy watching musicals and orchestral concerts. And I am thankful that he is willing to watch them with me even though he might not understand or appreciate him. The fact that he is willing to try and do things I enjoy really touches me. I know how tough it can be to do things you dont enjoy. And if he doesnt enjoy he will tell me nicely that he cant appreciate the performance.

i have no intention to force him into doing things he dont enjoy with me but I appreciate the fact that he is willing to try and not rejecting me immediately.

5. He gives me personal space and spend time apart

We dont necessarily meet every weekend, but when we do we will make full use of it. I love it when he gives me the freedom to meet my friends whenever I wan too and doesnt judge my friends. He doesnt say that my friends are bad and gets grumpy when I make appointments with my friends.

6. He makes me a priority in his life and is willing to change for me

I know it can be tough to decide to get a PR in another country but I am thankful he is considering to get a PR just for our future together and we are slowly working towards that. And how he is trying to improve and make a good impression of himself in front of my parents.

I know all the pointers above may seem to be pretty simple, but to me, it means the world when a guy puts me as priority, has constant communication, listens to me and doesnt break promises easily. Diamonds, cash (condo, car) are all materialistic items that I can do without. To me personality is way more important that all these items because you can put a price on personality or happiness one gets from a relationship.

Can I just say how thankful am I to have met you and that we found our way to each other. 사랑해요 💕

... Read moreIn reflecting more on what truly makes a relationship healthy, I realize that mutual respect is the foundation of everything. When a guy values your opinions and feelings without judgment, it builds a strong sense of trust and safety. For example, my partner listens carefully—even to small details I mention—and remembers them, which makes me feel truly seen and appreciated. Support and growth are equally important. It's encouraging when your partner is willing to grow with you, whether that means considering major decisions, like relocating or improving himself, or simply making an effort to join you in your interests, even if they're outside his comfort zone. This willingness to evolve together strengthens the relationship and shows genuine care. Additionally, giving each other personal space matters a lot. Healthy relationships respect individuality, allowing both people to maintain friendships and personal activities without feeling restricted or judged. This balance helps maintain happiness and reduces the risk of dependency or controlling behavior. Lastly, seeing a partner prioritize the relationship while maintaining his own identity and goals suggests a mature and trustworthy bond. It’s warm and reassuring when the person you love puts sincere effort into making the relationship work by adjusting where needed but not losing their true self. These green flags have personally made me appreciate my relationship even more. They remind me that love isn’t about grand displays or material gifts but about consistent kindness, attention, and support that builds a lasting connection.
