... Read moreHi there, it's Eva Bird, and I'm so thrilled to share a little more about my world of art with you! For me, creating art isn't just about putting colors on a canvas; it's about telling stories, exploring emotions, and sometimes, just having a good laugh. My journey as an artist is deeply personal, and I pour a piece of myself into every illustration, especially those I create for my wonderful community of girls and gays, and truly, for anyone who finds joy and connection in my work.
One of my favorite things is watching how a piece evolves from a tiny spark of an idea. Take, for instance, the illustration of the person pole dancing on a carousel horse. That piece really delves into themes of healing from trauma and getting good sleep. It’s about finding a moment of whimsical escape, a surreal act of reclaiming joy and peace amidst life's challenges. Sometimes, you just need that playful, slightly rebellious spirit to remind you that even after tough times, you can find your rhythm and dance again. Art is my way of processing, and I hope it helps others process too.
Then there’s the tennis court scene, boldly proclaiming 'TOLD YA' and 'CHALLENGERS'. This one is all about embracing your inner strength and the playful confidence you gain from overcoming obstacles. It’s a cheeky nod to those moments when you prove yourself right, a testament to resilience and the thrill of the game, whatever that 'game' might be in your life.
Another deeply resonant piece for me is the one with the surreal landscape and the words, 'MAYBE MEMORY IS ALL THE HOME YOU GET'. This illustration explores the profound connection we have to our past and how memories shape our present. It’s a soft, reflective thought, suggesting that sometimes our truest sense of belonging isn't a physical place, but the cherished moments and feelings we carry within us. It’s about finding comfort and home in the landscapes of our minds.
My art also loves to find humor in the everyday, like the illustration depicting coffee, cigarettes, heart flutters, and vodka. It’s a lighthearted take on life's little indulgences and imperfections, finding the charm in chaotic moments and the beauty in our human quirks. And speaking of quirks, my 'TWIN PEAKS' inspired piece, with its wide-eyed blonde woman and unicorn, is a peek into my love for pop culture, mystery, and the dreamlike state where magic meets reality.
And who doesn't love a cozy evening? The 'GOODNIGHT (...don't let the existential dread bite!)' piece captures that perfect, peaceful bedroom scene, but with a signature humorous twist. It's about finding solace and comfort, while acknowledging those little anxieties we all carry, and gently pushing them aside for a night of restful peace. It's a reminder to embrace the calm, even when the world feels a bit much. Each piece, from the reflective, jeweled fish looking in a mirror to the dramatic 'A KINGDOM FOR A KISS UPON HER SHOULDER', is a slice of my artistic soul, inviting you to connect with the whimsical, the thoughtful, and the wonderfully human.
