Before You Buy It, Find the True Cost
The checkout price is often only the first number.
This guide starts with a $720 purchase, then adds tax and delivery, financing, and required extras. The
true cost becomes $950. At $25 of take-home pay per hour, that is 38 hours of work. If the item is used
100 times, it costs $9.50 per use.
None of those calculations tells you what you are allowed to value. They make the tradeoff visible so
you can decide on purpose.
Try the check on one purchase you are currently considering.
