My Neighbor Buried My Driveway
Living in a snowy neighborhood, dealing with snow removal often feels like a seasonal battle, especially when neighbors have different approaches and attitudes. From my experience, communication and a bit of patience can go a long way, but sometimes a humorous twist is exactly what’s needed. I learned that no matter how diligently you shovel and salt your walkway, a neighbor with a snowblower can easily undo all your hard work in minutes. At first, I tried politely asking him to redirect the snow onto his own yard, but that only seemed to encourage his antics. This situation reminded me how important it is to know local snow removal regulations and the city’s plow schedule—timing can be everything. One winter, after a major storm, I decided to take a different approach by clearing a narrow path just wide enough for my car and waiting to see what he'd do. Sure enough, he blew his driveway clean, sending mountains of snow into the street. But ironically, the city plow arrived right then, pushing all that snow back onto his property. From that point on, the dynamic changed completely. He became more cautious, directing his snowblower upwards and checking the plow schedule in advance. This experience taught me not only about persistence but also about the value of humor and community awareness in making winter a little easier for everyone. If you live in a snowy area and face similar challenges, my advice is to observe local plow times, communicate with neighbors, and keep a sense of humor—you never know how the snow will fall or which side it will land on!
