Ephesians 6:10-20 tells us to put on the armor of God. I’m no artist, but I drew this to help me learn and remember the armor God has provided for His followers. I hope it helps you too.
Ignore the other writing on the side. I was taking other notes.
... Read moreWhen I first read about the Armor of God in Ephesians 6:10-20, it sounded like a powerful concept, but sometimes abstract. That's why creating a visual guide, even a simple hand-drawn one, became incredibly helpful for me. It’s not just about knowing these pieces exist; it’s about understanding what each one means for our spiritual walk and how to 'put them on' daily.
Starting with the Belt of Truth, I've learned it's the foundation. Just like a physical belt holds everything together, spiritual truth grounds us. In a world full of shifting perspectives, clinging to God's unchanging truth is essential for spiritual stability. Visualizing this belt reminds me to be honest with myself and with God, and to seek His Word above all else.
Next, the Breastplate of Righteousness protects our most vital organ – our heart. For me, this isn't about being perfect, but about living in right standing with God through Christ. It guards against guilt, shame, and the devil's accusations. When I picture this breastplate, it's a reminder that my righteousness comes from Jesus, and living a life that honors Him keeps my heart protected.
Then there are the 'feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the Gospel of Peace.' This isn't just about shoes; it's about being prepared to walk through life's challenges with peace, and to share that peace with others. It means being ready at all times to spread the good news of Jesus. Having my feet ready keeps me from stumbling and helps me move forward with purpose, carrying the message of hope wherever I go.
The Shield of Faith is perhaps one of the most dynamic pieces. It's not static; we lift it to deflect the 'flaming arrows of the evil one.' For me, this represents actively trusting God even when things are uncertain or scary. Every time doubt or fear tries to creep in, I visualize raising that shield, remembering God’s promises and His faithfulness to protect me.
Above all, the Helmet of Salvation protects our mind. Our thoughts are a battleground, and this helmet ensures our minds are guarded by the assurance of our salvation in Christ. It helps me control negative thoughts, anxieties, and lies that try to tell me I'm not good enough or that God isn't with me. It’s about remembering who I am in Christ and allowing that truth to shape my perspective.
Finally, the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, is our offensive weapon. While all other pieces are defensive, this is how we engage and fight back. I find that actively reading, studying, and speaking scripture is like wielding this sword. It cuts through confusion, exposes lies, and empowers us to stand firm. It's not just about defense, but about spiritual power, allowing us to speak truth and overcome spiritual obstacles.
Putting on the Armor of God isn't a one-time event; it's a daily choice. I encourage you to think about each piece, perhaps even draw your own version, and reflect on how you can actively apply it in your life. It's a powerful way to prepare for the spiritual battles we face, knowing God has equipped us completely.
