Im not a huge fan, it did not taste like a birria taco. The cheese was terrible and highly processed tasting. The transmission oil 😂( birria taco sauce ) tastes like a chilli brick.
It wasn’t the most terrible I ate it but in my opinion not a buy again item.

While my experience wasn't the best, I know many of us are still on the hunt for delicious, easy birria tacos, especially using an air fryer! Let's be real, the convenience of tossing them in the air fryer is super appealing for a quick weeknight meal.
If you're thinking about trying air fryer birria tacos, whether they're store-bought or homemade, here are some tips I've learned that can seriously up your game. First off, a good air fryer can really make the tortillas crispy and perfectly browned – way better than just a pan sometimes! My trick: preheat your air fryer, then lightly brush your corn or flour tortillas with a bit of the consommé (if you have a good one!) or a tiny bit of oil before adding your filling. This helps them get that perfect crunch without drying out.
Speaking of filling, that slow-cooked beef is key! For store-bought versions, you might not have much control, but if you're making your own, slow-cooking the beef until it's super tender and shreddable is non-negotiable. And the cheese? Oh my goodness, the cheese makes such a difference. The original article mentioned "terrible and highly processed tasting" cheese, and I totally get that. If you're using packaged birria, try adding a sprinkle of freshly shredded Monterey Jack cheese yourself, or a mix of Oaxaca and Monterey Jack. It melts beautifully and has a much better flavor than some pre-shredded, processed options.
Now, let's talk about the consommé – the heart and soul of birria tacos! Mine tasted like a "chilli brick" which was a huge letdown. A truly great consommé should be rich, savory, slightly spicy, and packed with deep beef flavor, perfect for dipping. If your store-bought consommé isn't cutting it, don't be afraid to doctor it up! A pinch of beef bouillon, some extra dried chiles (like guajillo or ancho, rehydrated and blended), a dash of apple cider vinegar, or even a spoonful of tomato paste can work wonders to deepen the flavor. You can even simmer it with some onion and garlic for an extra boost.
When air frying, make sure not to overcrowd your air fryer basket. Cook them in batches if needed so the air can circulate properly, ensuring even crisping. I usually do about 375°F (190°C) for 5-7 minutes, flipping halfway, but ovens vary, so keep an eye on them! You want that golden-brown, slightly crispy tortilla. Adding some finely diced white onions and fresh cilantro inside before folding, or serving them on the side, also adds a fresh, authentic touch that can really elevate even a mediocre taco.
So, while my Sam's Club experience wasn't a win, don't give up on the idea of delicious air fryer birria tacos! With a few adjustments and knowing what to look for (or how to fix it), you can still enjoy this amazing dish at home.
I bought these but haven’t tried them yet. Reading this is disappointed now 😣
