❤️ Trust me - I’m aware of the controversy that putting Taylor Swift at the top of my list has. HOWEVER, music is subjective and your taste doesn’t have to match mine!
As a Junior English Major, Taylor Swift’s lyricism and song writing is unmatched by almost every other music artist I’ve seen. I study poetry/literacy for my entire major, and as a Theatre minor I also enjoy the emotion of writing and live performing. Hozier is the only person I can even compare to Taylor Swift because of his incredible lyricism and song writing. I would like to point out that one is a man who receives nothing but praise from the general public when writing songs of heartbreak and yearning, while Taylor Swift is constantly ridiculed for writing “breakup songs”.

Hoziers “breakup songs” are not the same as Taylor’s “breakup songs” There’s a huge difference between singing about the first person to ever break your heart and singing about the concept of losing your own humanity and sense of self in the love of another person, even when technically they might be similar subjects They’re not writing about the same types of experiences because hozier, realistically, is not writing about real experiences in his love/breakup songs Also, even hoziers sexiest, most dramatic and romantic songs are often very direct criticisms of world politics and human rights issues, like To be Alone.
