Attending the Universal Orlando Resort Mardi Gras food festival was a remarkable experience for me, especially as a food enthusiast who loves exploring global flavors. The event, running until April 4th, features over ten food booths offering specialty items that bring authentic tastes from around the world. Starting with the Matzatlán Street Ceviche from Mexico, I was impressed by the shrimp ceviche served on Tostitos salsa verde. The dish packed a spicy kick that was perfectly balanced by the fresh, tangy flavors — an invigorating way to kick off the tasting journey. Moving on to China’s Mala Beef Skewer, marinated in a Sichuan spice blend, I found the flavors vibrant though the beef could have been a bit more tender. It was an interesting experience tasting the heat and aroma of authentic Sichuan cuisine. In Greece, the Spanakopita stood out with its flaky phyllo dough wrapping a wholesome spinach filling. Unlike some heavier versions, this was not greasy and offered an amazing texture contrast that I greatly enjoyed. From Puerto Rico, the Pinchos de Lechon—char-grilled pork shoulder skewers with guava BBQ sauce—was a highlight. The smoky pork combined with the sweetness of the BBQ sauce created a delightful flavor profile that felt festive and satisfying. No Mardi Gras celebration would be complete without beignets. Though I wished they were fluffier, these fried pastries still delivered the classic taste I was craving. The Brazilian Pão de Queijo, a cheese bread that was fluffy and chewy, was a comforting bite that reminded me of my travels in Brazil. Finally, I savored my first-ever King Cake. With its cinnamon swirl icing, it resembled a bundt cake but carried the festive Mardi Gras tradition perfectly. Each bite encapsulated the spirit of the celebration, making the entire food tasting adventure memorable. If you're planning a visit to Universal Orlando during Mardi Gras, I highly recommend trying these dishes to experience a blend of cultural flavors and festive vibes. The variety and quality of food booths make it a fun and mouth-watering event for all food lovers.
