[Part 1] Things to do in Kyushu Japan

1/24 Edited to

... Read moreKyushu is a remarkable region in Japan that combines natural beauty, cultural heritage, and unique local experiences. During my trip, I found that each city offers something distinctly memorable. For instance, in Aso, the Minami-Aso Panorama Line Observation Deck offers breathtaking views of the volcanic landscapes, while the nearby Furedimizube Park and Kumanoimasu Shrine provide peaceful retreats rich in history. Miyazaki’s Takachiho Gorge is a place I highly recommend for nature lovers. The gorge features surreal cliffs and crystal-clear waters, and you can even rent a boat to explore the area more intimately. The Amaterasu Railway nearby offers charming transit through picturesque scenery. Oita is famous for its hot springs, especially in Beppu. Exploring Komatsu Jigoku and Umi Jigoku gave me a fascinating glimpse into volcanic geothermal activity. For a lighter pace, Yunotsubo Street and the quaint Floral Village in Yufuin create a delightful atmosphere full of artisan shops and cafes. Moving to Kagoshima, don’t miss the Sengan-en garden, a beautifully preserved estate with views of the active Sakurajima volcano. Its blend of nature and traditional Japanese landscaping was a calming experience. In Nagasaki, the city’s unique blend of history, culture, and coastal views makes it an enriching visit. Saga and Kurume also surprised me with their local charms and friendly communities. For anyone planning a trip, I suggest creating a flexible itinerary that lets you explore these varied landscapes—from panoramic mountain overlooks and volcanic activity spots to cultural landmarks and serene towns. The diversity of Kyushu means every traveler can find something to cherish. Plus, the local cuisine in each city is undeniably worth trying, with fresh seafood, hearty stews, and unique regional flavors that complete the travel experience.
