Everyone talks about Graceland… and I get it, it’s iconic.
But if you’re working with a budget or just want to see more of Memphis, this is what that same $100 could look like instead 👀
Multiple museums.
More history.
Food!!
For me, this gave me a fuller experience of Memphis, not just one story, but all the layers that make the city what it is.
That said… if you’re a big Elvis fan, Graceland might still be worth it for you. But come on it $100!!
Sorry Elvis I had to skip this one

When I first visited Memphis, I was also captivated by the iconic status of Graceland, but soon realized that there’s so much more to experience in this vibrant city — especially if you're on a budget. Instead of spending the full $100 on just Graceland, I chose to explore several fantastic sites that tell the diverse stories of Memphis. Start your journey at the National Civil Rights Museum, housed in the former Lorraine Motel, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. The museum offers a powerful and moving history of the civil rights movement, making it essential for understanding the city’s significant role in American history. Next up is Sun Studio, often called the birthplace of rock 'n' roll. Walking through the same doors where legends like Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash recorded their first hits was thrilling and gave me a real sense of Memphis’ musical heritage. Another gem is the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, which captures the essence of soul and R&B. It complements the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum, enriching your appreciation for the city’s musical evolution. After soaking in culture and history, I treated myself to some famous Memphis ribs at BB King's Blues Club — a perfect way to taste the city after seeing its story. The balance of museums, history, live music, and food created a layered and authentic Memphis experience. Visiting all these attractions with the same budget as Graceland not only saved money but also revealed the depth and complexity of Memphis beyond one iconic destination. Whether you’re solo traveling or exploring with friends, this itinerary adds richness and variety to your trip, and you’ll come away with stories and memories that go beyond Elvis.
