Tomorrow is August and August sounds like autumn which means it’s basically fall now. So to celebrate I made cake. I’ve actually had this Augtober themed cake on my baking list since last year. I don’t wanna talk about how long my current baking project list is 🤦♀️ anyway it’s a pumpkin cake with a maple buttercream.
🎃 For the cake I used the pumpkin cake recipe from Sally’s baking addiction. And for the buttercream it’s a basic buttercream but with maple syrup and maple extract for an extra punch of maple flavor. It pairs so well with the pumpkin cake.
Baking this pumpkin cake with maple buttercream was a wonderful way to usher in the cozy vibes of Augtober. I followed a similar approach using Sally’s baking addiction pumpkin cake recipe and enhanced my buttercream with pure maple syrup and maple extract to really bring out that rich, autumnal flavor. The balance of the spicy pumpkin cake with the sweet, creamy maple buttercream created a comforting treat that fits perfectly into any fall gathering. One tip I found helpful was to ensure the buttercream was not too cold before mixing in the maple syrup and extract; this prevents the frosting from becoming too runny or separating. After whipping it to a fluffy consistency, I let the cake rest for a bit to meld the flavors. The combination is fantastic not just for special occasions like Augtober, but also for cozy nights in when you want to indulge in something seasonal and satisfying. If you’re planning your own baking project list like me, this pumpkin and maple cake combo is definitely worth prioritizing. It’s also quite versatile — you can experiment by adding chopped nuts or a sprinkle of cinnamon on top for even more depth. Plus, this cake pairs wonderfully with a hot cup of coffee or spiced tea, making it a true fall comfort food. Whether you’re celebrating the start of fall or just love sharing seasonal delights, this recipe is a sweet way to welcome autumn.
