Back on my waffle/breakfast foods kick. So I made some blueberry pie earl grey infused waffles. I added earl grey into my milk before adding it to my waffle batter (I just used boxed waffle mix). Then made a blueberry compote for on top of the waffles. Topped with a whipped cream lattice “crust”. I really like how the waffle edges kinda look like a pie crust too. I def see more pie inspired waffles in my future. Maybe apple next? I feel like it’s been a minute since I’ve done anything apple 😅
If you're into experimenting with breakfast flavors, infusing earl grey tea into waffle batter is a game changer. I personally like steeping the tea in the milk to gently introduce the bergamot aroma without overpowering the batter. Blueberry compote is an easy yet flavorful topping that adds natural sweetness and a hint of tartness, which balances the tea-infused waffle. Creating a whipped cream lattice on top not only mimics a classic pie crust visually but adds a creamy texture contrast that elevates the dish. The edges of the waffle forming a pie crust look is a charming touch, making the breakfast feel like a fun fusion of pie and waffles. For those who enjoy seasonal twists, apple-flavored waffles could be the perfect next step. You might try simmering chopped apples with cinnamon and a bit of brown sugar as a compote to pour over your waffles. Alternatively, adding finely grated apple right into the waffle mix can provide bursts of fresh fruit flavor. Using boxed waffle mix is convenient, but don’t hesitate to customize it further with spices like nutmeg or vanilla to complement the fruit and tea flavors. This approach keeps breakfast exciting and encourages more creative culinary adventures at home.
