-TikTok moved to being very ‘pay to win’ more recently and it was so upsetting. I had a video go viral, then suddenly all of my views tanked, and then TikTok sent me an ad asking if I wanted to pay for a promotion to RECOVER my views. Absurd behavior. And just now the “your video is performing impressively. Promote it to maximize its reach,” LIKE IT HAS 8 LIKES you liar. And this one? It’s private. Promote how??
-TikTok gate keeps other apps so badly. Like please, let this artist link their Etsy shop SO I CAN BUY THEIR AMAZING ART. Linktree luckily is a brilliant workaround to this, but it made me so mad that tik tok did everything it could to keep people from transferring anything to life outside the app.
-I wish there was a better system for collections. I collected so many things I virtually lost all of them, and now I’m really going to lose them with the app going away
-the comments being limited to like two sentences restricted community building and I think contributed to the amount of hate comments because it was so easy to drop one nasty sentence and hide behind an empty profile.
I hope lemon8 proves to be so much better under TikTok ownership
... Read moreTikTok has faced criticism for its pay-to-win model, leading many users to feel disillusioned. Users report a decline in organic reach, and promotional tactics often prioritize paid content over genuine engagement. This has sparked conversations about the effectiveness and fairness of such practices. Many creators are frustrated that TikTok restricts linking to external platforms, consequently limiting their ability to monetize their content independently, as seen with artists seeking to promote their Etsy shops. The use of platforms like Linktree provides a workaround, but the ongoing gatekeeping leaves creators feeling powerless in not being able to share their work easily.
Moreover, the two-sentence limit on comments has stunted meaningful interactions within the community, fostering an environment that can lead to negativity and hate comments. As users voice these concerns, there's a growing hope that Lemon8 can cultivate a healthier ecosystem for sharing art, ideas, and support that TikTok has struggled to maintain. The aim is for Lemon8 to enhance community interactions while allowing creators to thrive without the oppressive burden of paid promotions. Users are looking for a space where genuine connections can flourish, making it imperative for Lemon8 to address these community needs and facilitate an engaging platform that values authentic content sharing.
I never really ever got above 600 views per video, but I also never wanted to go viral. I also cultivated the people who would follow me. I always kept people away i didn’t want to follow me. Yet, I did meet some wonderful people who came from that cultivation.
