Leaving Alaska is incredibly bittersweet.

We have fallen in love with this state. The wild beauty, the snow-capped mountains, the endless forests, the dancing northern lights, and the wildlife, always leaves us in awe. From the kind and resilient people of Fairbanks, to the friendly and welcoming community we found in Ketchikan, we have been so blessed by the friendships and connections God placed in our lives. There is something special about Alaska that is hard to put into words. It is rugged and untamed, yet full of love and peace. It is a place that draws you closer to God through the wonder of His creation and the strength of the people who call it home.

Leaving Fairbanks was hard. We had a group of friends who became like family. Our weeks were filled with game nights, Bible study evenings, and day trips to Denali that always reminded us how beautiful this Alaska is. We loved watching the aurora light up the sky and soaking in the quiet wonder of it all. Fairbanks taught us a lot about endurance, faith, and finding joy in simple moments.

Leaving Ketchikan isn’t easy either. We’ve made wonderful friends here and found a home church we’ve really loved. Our cozy home sits just minutes from the water where there are amazing views of the narrows and the surrounding mountains. Haven has spent her days spotting whales, bears, and eagles, and exploring tide pools for crabs and starfish. Though the season we spent here was short, this place has been such a special part of our lives and will always hold a place in our hearts.

The rain was a bit of an adjustment. Coming from Fairbanks’ long winter into Ketchikan’s wet summer, even by local standards, took some getting used to. We had planned to stay longer, but during our visit to family in Arizona in September, we felt it was the right time to move.

I hope one day we will find ourselves back in Alaska if it is in God’s will for us. It truly feels like home here, and it will always hold a piece of my heart. 🤍
