I was worried that I wasn’t reading enough this week, but looking back on how much I actually read I think I read a lot! I’ve been really pushing myself to read more the first few weeks of 2026 because I want to be more lenient with my reading once classes start next week.
It’s been taking me a while to get through Jade City because there’s a lot to get used to with it, which I knew was going to happen. My goal was to read at least 50 pages of it a day. Some days I exceeded that goal and there was a day where I didn’t read it at all. I think that’s why I haven’t been feeling confident about my ability to finish my January TBR.
I ended up starting and finishing two audiobooks this week. It isn’t surprising because Into the Wild was only 7 hours long and I usually read romace books like Say You’ll Remember Me pretty quickly. With finishing those two, I’ve finished the audiobook portion of my January TBR! That means I can move on to audiobooks that I was planning on reading in February. The next one on my list is Wolf Worm by T. Kingfisher, which is an ARC. I’m going to finish my current ARC today so I can focus on finishing up my review and starting on Wolf Worm.
The digital book I have been reading this week is the Beheading Game, which is an ARC that will be coming out in March. I love anything Tudor era and I love that this one has a bit of a fantastical twist, but it isn’t overtly a fantasy book. My review will be coming soon! Also reading on my kindle has been so nice! This is only the second ebook I’ve read since I got a kindle for Christmas and I’m really enjoying it. I own a copy of Jade City so I keep it at home to read and then I bring my kindle to read at work during my lunch break.
With the 2 books I finished this week my total books read for 2026 is now 10!
... Read moreAs an avid reader myself, I can truly relate to the challenges of balancing ambitious reading goals with day-to-day life. Setting a target like 50 pages per day when diving into a complex book such as Jade City is a smart strategy to stay motivated and engaged, especially given its richly woven narrative that can take some time to fully absorb.
In my experience, mixing formats—switching between physical books, eBooks, and audiobooks—not only fits more reading time into a busy schedule but also keeps the experience fresh. For example, reading physical copies at home while using a Kindle during work breaks can easily maximize your daily reading intake without feeling overwhelming.
Audiobooks are especially great for multitasking or relaxing without strain; finishing Into the Wild and romance books like Say You’ll Remember Me quickly is very encouraging and helps to boost confidence that you can reach your monthly goals. Plus, having completed the audiobook section of a TBR list early can be incredibly motivating to jump into new titles planned for upcoming months.
Getting ARCs (Advance Reader Copies) like Beheading Game and Wolf Worm adds an exciting element to reading plans, as it allows you to explore fresh releases and share your thoughts through reviews. If you enjoy historical settings with a twist, as seen in Beheading Game’s Tudor era backdrop with fantastical elements, integrating such picks can deepen your appreciation for varied genres.
Overall, creating a flexible but intentional reading routine—acknowledging days when life gets busy and you might read less, and celebrating the days you exceed targets—can make January’s reading wrap-ups feel rewarding rather than stressful. Remember, reading is ultimately about enjoyment and growth, so keep exploring and adapting your methods to fit your lifestyle!
