24 week symptom update: we’ve officially hit viability week! 👶🏼
At this point, baby is about 11-12 inches, weighs over 1lb (my pregnancy tracking app’s comparison this week is an ear of corn lol) and he’s gaining ~6oz per week!

Hitting 24 weeks pregnant truly feels like a monumental milestone! It's not just another week; it’s officially viability week, which brings such a mix of relief and excitement. Beyond just baby's impressive growth (already over a pound and gaining fast!), there's so much happening with my body and emotions. I wanted to share a more in-depth symptom update for anyone else navigating this incredible journey. First, let's talk about those symptoms. While the bump is undeniably bigger, I've noticed a few new things popping up around 24 weeks pregnant. Braxton Hicks contractions have become more noticeable for me – they’re usually mild tightenings, but definitely make you pause! Staying hydrated really helps manage them. Backaches are also a more frequent visitor, especially after a long day. I've found that gentle stretching, a warm bath, and a good pregnancy pillow at night are my best friends. Fatigue can still creep in, sometimes unexpectedly, reminding me that growing a human is hard work! Heartburn also seems to be making a comeback, so I'm rethinking my evening meals to avoid anything too spicy or acidic. On the baby front, it's absolutely mind-blowing to think about what's happening inside. At this stage, baby's lungs are developing rapidly, getting ready for that first breath. His senses are also sharpening – he can already hear sounds from outside the womb, which is why I love talking and singing to my belly! Those little kicks and flutters have turned into more distinct jabs and rolls, and it’s truly the most reassuring feeling. I try to make time each day to just lie down and feel him move; it’s such a precious bond. It's amazing to think about the intricate systems forming, from digestive organs maturing to his brain continuing its incredible development. Viability week itself is a huge mental marker. While we never want to think about the worst, knowing that medical science offers a chance for survival outside the womb at this point is incredibly comforting. It makes me feel even more protective and aware of every choice I make. For fellow moms-to-be at 24 weeks pregnant, my biggest tips would be: listen to your body, prioritize rest, and don't hesitate to reach out if you're feeling overwhelmed. Hydration is key, and nourishing your body with good food helps both you and baby. I've also found it helpful to start thinking about a birth plan and what classes might be beneficial as we head into the third trimester. Every “symptom update” feels like another step closer to meeting my little one!
