Do you feel safe asking for more?

Los Angeles

for me, I had to grieve :

the version who learned to stay quiet.

the version who became who suppressed her emotions to allow others bigger emotions to exist.

the version who confused being low-maintenance with being loved.

and i’m learning now that needing care was never the problem.

the problem was being in places where my needs had nowhere safe to land.

so i’m not shaming myself for wanting more anymore.

i’m learning to become someone who doesn’t abandon herself just to be easier to love. 💙

save this if you’re healing from the version of you who had to need less to survive.

... Read moreI’ve found that many of us grow up learning to minimize our needs because society often rewards being low-maintenance or self-sacrificing. For years, I suppressed my emotions and stayed quiet, afraid that asking for more would push people away or make me seem too demanding. It was exhausting living that way, constantly feeling like my needs weren't valid or safe to express. Learning that needing care isn’t the problem but rather where and how we express those needs makes a huge difference. It’s about finding safe environments—whether with friends, family, or partners—where your feelings can land without judgment or dismissal. When you find those safe people or communities, it becomes easier to ask for support and to be vulnerable. One thing that helped me tremendously was practicing self-compassion and reminding myself that everyone deserves to be loved fully, including their imperfections and needs. Sometimes, that means grieving the parts of ourselves who learned to need less to survive. It’s a process of reclaiming your voice and allowing yourself to want more without guilt. If you’re healing from the version of yourself that kept needing less to protect from pain or rejection, know that it’s okay to start small. Express your needs in ways that feel safe and build upon that. Building resilience isn’t about never needing help—it’s about trusting yourself enough to ask for it and knowing you deserve it. Remember, this journey is deeply personal, but connecting with others who share similar experiences can remind you that you’re not alone. I encourage you to save this reflection as a reminder that your feelings are valid and that asking for more is a brave and essential step toward your growth and self-trust.
