My first trimester: rollercoaster of journey

Hiya, mummies-to-be! 🤗 If you're reading this, chances are you're navigating the wild world of first trimester pregnancy too. I'm sharing my experience, hoping it'll help you feel less alone 😊.

🤩 How did we find out

In less than a month after getting married, I miss my period for about 2 weeks. Initially I thought it’s due to stress from wedding planning 🥲 but just in case, we bought a test kit. The night before I test, I asked hubby “how if it turns out positive? We haven’t planned for it”, luckily hubby was positive about it and said it’ll be a great thing for us.

I took the test in the morning, and felt shocked when I see two lines, quickly woke up and told hubby.

Then, I browsed around lemon8 to find out what we should do, from there we learnt and did these things:

1. Went to polyclinic to get referral to public hospital

2. Decided not to tell parents first until we got confirmation from gynae

3. Started taking folic acid

However, the referred date to public hospital was still a few weeks away and I couldn’t wait, so I asked a friend who recently gave birth and went to her gynae instead.

During the gynae visit, we heard the baby heart beat and things suddenly felt so real. After that we told both our parents and there begins our pregnancy journey.

💡The symptoms (mostly mild for me)

- No nausea or vomiting, yay! 🙌 Doctor says keep that belly filled, so I'm keeping snack around 🍿

- Sensitive nose 👃 Smell that food from a mile away… but also get annoyed by hubby’s fart all around the house

- Mild headaches pop up sometimes 🤕 Drink more water, they say 🤷‍♀️

- Tender sensitive breasts! 🌸

- And spotting... 😬 Yeah, that got me rushing to the doc every 2 weeks because I’m worried that there’s something wrong 🤦‍♀️ Had to cancel gym membership 😐

😬 The emotional bit

Stressful, feeling not ready, but trying to stay chill 🤗 Worrying about every little thing, but also super excited! 😍 We don’t dare to tell friends / siblings yet at this point.

✅ Tips (or what works for me)

- Stay hydrated 💧

- Snack often 🍰 hehe

- Trust your gut (and your doctor 🤝)

Would love to hear about your first trimester experiences! 😊 What symptoms are you dealing with? Will share more about 2nd and 3rd trimester now that I’m in 3rd trimester

I found that beyond just managing symptoms like sensitive noses and mild headaches, one of the most important aspects was learning to listen closely to my body. For example, staying hydrated was crucial for me to reduce headaches, and having frequent small snacks helped maintain my energy levels and kept nausea at bay, even though I was lucky not to experience severe morning sickness. The emotional ups and downs were just as impactful. It helped me to openly share my feelings with my partner, which strengthened our bond and eased the anxiety that often comes with early pregnancy. I also found comfort in connecting with other expectant mothers online who offered reassurance that these experiences were normal and temporary. One unexpected challenge was spotting, which led me to schedule extra doctor visits. While stressful, these check-ins ultimately reassured me that the baby was healthy. Hearing the baby’s heartbeat for the first time was a milestone that made everything feel incredibly real and gave me peace of mind. If you’re going through your first trimester, my advice is to trust both your instincts and your healthcare provider’s guidance. Take good care of yourself by resting when needed, staying hydrated, and keeping a journal of your symptoms and feelings. This practice can give you valuable insights to share with your doctor and help you track your progress. Lastly, remember that every pregnancy journey is unique. It’s okay to feel a mix of excitement and nerves—embracing both emotions can help you prepare for the wonderful adventure ahead. The due date on the scan, noted as 9/4/26, feels like a small but significant marker of this amazing journey of bringing new life into the world.

1st trimester: sleep a lot , nausea, dislike foods which I used to love to eat, can’t carry heavy bulky things, mindfulness of not to eat cooling food like seafoods which is raw and can’t do heavy exercise which I used to do it. See dr if not well like headache, do not take over the counter medicine as it might not be suitable for pregnant woman. Start to eat lactose and indigestion medicine ( only prescribed by dr) when I reach 2nd trimester.

I got nausea just by looking at food! And I sleep a lot! I only got back my energy when I was in my second trimester. Jia you!

1️⃣ Why KKH? I chose to go KKH for all my pregnancy checkups simply because it is the nearest hospital from my house. It takes only about 20-30min (depending on bus waiting time) from my doorstep to KKH, so it is very convenient. And of course, with KKH being a well-known women's and children&

Why i went from KKH to Thomson at 28 weeks 🤰
We went the subsidised route from the start, from polyclinic to KKH. In my second trimester, I started researching labour ward and delivery at KKH. Found out that hospital beds at KKH are based on first-come-first-served basis which was a major turn off for me. My non-negotiable was for my husb
