I’ve followed so many people, admired so many lives, but I’ve never actually wanted to be them. Not fully. Not in the way where I trust their heart enough to model my life after it. And I think it’s because deep down I could always feel that they were still figuring themselves out too. Which isn’t wrong… it’s just not something I should be building my identity on. I think for the first time I’m understanding the difference between being influenced and being guided. For the first time in my entire life I finally feel like my soul has found that guidance that it longed for. It was looking something whole. Something true.

In my personal experience, the struggle to build one’s identity while surrounded by imperfect role models is a profound challenge. Often, we look up to others who seem to have their lives together, only to realize that they’re still navigating their own uncertainties. This resonates deeply with the message "You're letting unfinished people define who you're becoming," reminding us to be cautious of whose influence we allow to shape us. What has helped me profoundly is shifting my mindset from seeking external validation or modeling my life after others to seeking internal guidance through faith and spiritual growth. When I embraced this shift, it felt like my soul found a sense of wholeness and truth it had been longing for. The distinction between being influenced and being guided became a turning point; being guided means aligning with a source of enduring spiritual truth rather than transient human experiences. Walking with God, as I have found, means developing a personal relationship that sustains you through doubt and uncertainty. It empowers you to build your identity on something stable—your Identity in Christ. This foundation allows you to acknowledge the imperfections in yourself and others while growing towards spiritual maturity. If you're navigating similar feelings of confusion or longing for authentic guidance, I encourage you to seek sources that foster genuine spiritual growth. Engage with communities or content tagged as #faith, #spiritualgrowth, #walkwithGod, or #IdentityinChrist. These can offer encouragement and practical wisdom for anyone on this path. Remember, it’s okay to recognize that everyone is a work in progress. What matters is finding the true guidance that leads to becoming whole, rather than letting the unfinished parts of others define your own journey.
