Finally! Got some peas to grow. Not much but we are learning
Growing peas has been a rewarding challenge in my gardening journey. One key lesson I've learned is the importance of protecting young plants, especially from curious chickens that can quickly decimate seedlings outside of enclosures. Constructing simple, protective enclosures has been a game changer. Inside these, the pea plants thrive much better and show real growth progress. In my experience, patience and testing different setups are crucial. The pea plants might not produce a large harvest at first, but each batch teaches you more about soil conditions, watering schedules, and plant placement. For example, uncovering the peas at the right time and monitoring their growth helps you understand their needs better. It’s also helpful to grow lettuce alongside peas in the enclosure, as they can coexist with less risk from the chickens. If you're dealing with similar issues, try observing how your animals interact with your garden. Sometimes, verbal cues or distractions can help protect plants temporarily, but physical barriers tend to be more reliable. Keep a close eye on the crops so you can intervene early when you notice any disturbance. Moreover, the satisfaction of seeing the first peas forming after many trials makes every effort worthwhile. Overall, growing peas has been a learning process of adapting to your environment, using enclosures, and being patient. I encourage fellow gardeners to embrace these small wins and keep experimenting. Your dedicated care will pay off as your pea plants respond and start producing more abundantly over time.

I wouldn’t be turning my back on those chickens even for a hot second. They’ll pick it clean.😂
