You don't need top-of-the-line equipment to start. Focus on a decent audio interface, a versatile condenser microphone, and good quality headphones. Keep an eye out for second-hand deals or sales. Organization is also key in a small space; cable ties, wall hooks, and small containers can keep your setup tidy and functional.
