... Read moreOkay, seriously, I need to talk about the Scarlet & Violet: Shrouded Fable Pokémon TCG set. I've been diving deep into it lately, and I just can't wrap my head around why it seems so underrated! I keep seeing comments about how people don’t like this set, but I genuinely think it’s packed with so many hidden gems and strategic cards that are being completely overlooked. If you’re searching for underrated Pokémon or an underrated Pokémon set, you absolutely have to give Shrouded Fable a closer look.
Maybe it was overshadowed by some of the bigger releases, or perhaps the community was too focused on specific chase cards, but from a player's and collector's perspective, this set offers so much value. Let's talk about some of the Pokémon cards that truly shine and make this set special. The OCR results from some of my recent pulls really highlight some fantastic creatures that deserve more attention.
Take Fraxure, for example. Its Unnerve Ability, preventing effects from Item or Supporter cards used by your opponent, can be a game-changer in certain matchups. Plus, Dragon Pulse hits for a decent 80 damage. It's a solid Stage 1 that can disrupt your opponent's strategy. Then there's Persian, with its Fury Swipes dealing 50x damage for each heads on three coin flips – that's some serious potential burst damage if luck is on your side! And who can forget Dusknoir? Its Cursed Blast Ability is risky but powerful, letting you place 13 damage counters on an opponent's Pokémon, even if it Knocks Out your own Dusknoir. Strategic players can definitely find a way to make that work, especially with its Shadow Bind preventing retreats.
But the real stars for me in terms of unique abilities have to be Fezandipiti and Pecharunt. Fezandipiti comes in a couple of forms, and both are interesting. One version has the 'Flip the Script' Ability, letting you draw 3 cards if one of your Pokémon was Knocked Out last turn – incredible comeback potential! The other Fezandipiti features 'Adrena-Pheromone,' which can prevent damage on a coin flip, and 'Energy Feather' for scaling attack power. These are not just filler cards; they have genuine tactical depth. And then there's Pecharunt with its 'Subjugating Chains' Ability, allowing you to switch Benched Pokémon and poison the new Active one. This can set up some tricky plays, especially with its 'Irritated Outburst' attack scaling with your opponent's Prize cards taken. Even Houndoom makes an appearance, with its 'Snarl' attack reducing your opponent's Pokémon's damage by 100 on their next turn – a fantastic defensive tool.
Beyond just competitive viability, the artwork in this set is truly stunning. I've been admiring the unique styles of illustrators like MINAMINAMI, Whisker, James Turner, kantaro, and KEICHIRO ITO. Each card feels like a small piece of art, perfectly capturing the essence of the Pokémon. It's not just about the big Shiny cards; there's a lot of beauty to appreciate in the common and uncommon cards too. The lore connections, especially with the newer Pokémon from Scarlet & Violet, really add to the appeal.
So, if you're like me and constantly on the lookout for a truly underrated Pokémon set that offers both playable cards and beautiful artwork, please do yourself a favor and check out Scarlet & Violet: Shrouded Fable. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by what you find. What are your favorite underrated Pokémon or sets? I’d love to hear about your hidden gems too!
