after trying his HUGE 600g sourdough loaf (which is only $8 btw 🤯), i was hooked. i’ve been using it to make shakshuka at home all the time hahaha, so i knew i had to try his sourdough pizzas too 🍕
i went for the neapolitan pizza, which comes with tomato basil sauce, cheese and pepperoni. you can also add burrata or parma ham if you want something more indulgent 😋
each pizza is handmade, and i actually love that they all come out looking slightly different! makes everything feel a lot more homely and freshly made.
since it’s made with the same sourdough starter, you get that slight sour tang in every bite. if you’re a sourdough lover like me, you’ll definitely appreciate it 🤭
my favourite part was definitely the crust!!! it was super chewy with a really good bite, but not hard or tough at all. i love breads with a bit more texture, so this was right up my alley 😋
overall, this hbb has been such a pleasant surprise. i’ve genuinely enjoyed everything i’ve tried from him so far, and i’m definitely looking forward to trying more of his bakes next time 🍞🍕
... Read moreIf you're a fan of sourdough, you'll truly appreciate how the starter's unique tang elevates the pizza experience beyond your typical crust. Having tried several artisanal sourdough pizzas, the ones made with a natural starter stand out with their complex flavor profile and satisfying chewiness. The slight sour tang in the crust complements rich toppings like pepperoni and creamy burrata perfectly, balancing richness with bright acidity.
What I particularly love about sourdough pizzas is the texture; the crust manages to be chewy and sturdy without feeling tough or overly dense. This is a hallmark of well-fermented dough, which develops a light, open crumb and a crisp exterior during baking. Each handmade pizza expresses the baker's touch—no two look identical, which adds a charming homemade feel that’s hard to replicate in mass-produced pies.
For those thinking of trying sourdough pizza at home, starting with a high-quality sourdough loaf or starter from a local bakery like CCK Sourdough is an excellent idea. Using that same starter for pizza dough produces that characteristic tang and chew. Plus, experimenting with toppings from classic tomato basil and cheese to indulgent parma ham adds variety to your homemade pizza nights.
Personally, I love pairing this pizza with a fresh salad or some lightly dressed greens to cut through the richness of the cheese and charred crust. Whether you are new to sourdough or a seasoned enthusiast, this style of pizza offers a delightful combination of flavor and texture that keeps me coming back for more.
