📍Kamikochi/上高地 - Prettiest Nagano Daytrip

/Kamikōchi really is one of the prettiest places I've been to! It is a MUST visit when you go to Nagano. Recommend half a day here at the very least.

We wanted to enjoy and hike more so we stopped at Taisho Ike Pond. It took us around 1.5-2hrs with loads of photo taking to get to Kappa Bridge so plan accordingly.

There is a convi store right before Taisho Ike so you can get some drinks or snacks before the walk!! It does get really sunny so prepare your umbrella and fan etc.

This place was honestly so pretty, we might be back again to do a more intensive hike/camp to Yokoo!!

... Read moreIf you're planning a trip to Kamikochi, having a detailed hiking map can make your experience so much smoother. The trails from Taisho Pond to Kappa Bridge offer stunning views and are manageable for most hikers if you allocate about 1.5 to 2 hours. Don't forget to grab some snacks or drinks at the convenient store before Taisho Ike Pond—you'll need energy and hydration, especially since it can get quite sunny. I personally recommend bringing a small umbrella and a portable fan to stay comfortable during your walk. For those looking to extend their adventure, consider trekking further towards Yokoo for camping or more intensive hiking. The map included in the area is very clear, highlighting various checkpoints like Myojin Bridge and Shimizu Bridge, and it’s advisable to wear sturdy trekking shoes for safety and comfort. Public transport options such as buses and taxis connect Kamikochi to surrounding areas, though taxis can save you time if you want to maximize your day. One tip from my experience: take your time to enjoy the photo spots along the route—places like Taisho Pond and Kappa Bridge are truly picturesque. Whether it's your first time or a return visit, Kamikochi’s walking routes provide nature lovers a peaceful escape and a chance to immerse themselves in Nagano’s pristine mountain landscapes.

A route to see the Northern Alps of Japan
The Northern Alps, stretches across Nagano, Toyama, Gifu and Niigata prefectures. It has breathtaking sceneries and is easily accesible, as there are many transportation, trails and routes around it. One of the popular route you can try to see the northern alps is the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route.
