... Read moreIf you're planning a visit to the Izu Peninsula, here are some tips to enhance your 3-day journey beyond the usual sightseeing highlights. Renting a car is highly recommended to freely explore the diverse attractions at your own pace. However, if you prefer not to drive, hiring a local driver, like I did via WeChat, is a great option for convenience and local insights. Daytime lighting conditions can greatly affect your experience, so try to schedule spots like Jogasaki Cliffs and Kawazu Waterfalls for daylight hours to capture breathtaking ocean and mountain views. For nature lovers, the Izu Shaboten Zoo offers interactive feeding sessions—don’t miss these fun moments suitable for all ages. Additionally, the Toi Gold Mine is a unique attraction where you can tour the mine tunnels and even try your hand at mining for crystals or gold for an extra fee. This hands-on experience adds a memorable touch to your itinerary. When it comes to accommodation, selecting hotels with private onsens and scenic views, like Hama no Yu or Futaritowani no En, makes all the difference in winding down each day. These stays offer not just comfort but also an authentic Japanese onsen experience. Keep an eye on tide schedules if you plan to visit the Tomobolo Sandbar, as crossing it depends entirely on tide levels. Planning ahead ensures you won’t miss this rare natural phenomenon. Finally, while exploring, take some time at Atami Station to enjoy local shopping and sample cuisine—it's a perfect way to conclude your Izu adventure before heading back to Tokyo. With these added insights, your 3-day trip will be both rich in experiences and smoothly organized, leaving beautiful memories of Japan’s stunning Izu Peninsula.

Even though it was late March, there was still melted snow on the ground, so some areas were a little slippery to walk (need proper shoes/boots). There were so many tall trees in town that makes it really nice to walk around. It's usually a summer vacation place for the locals as there are many

We tried to time both snow + Sakura but we kinda failed 🥲 Kawazu Sakura are early-blooming cherry trees which typically bloom from early February to early March in Kawazu/Izu Peninsula area. Unfortunately, we were at the tail end and kinda missed most of them :( I rate this trip 7/10 because (1
