... Read moreTraveling to the Izu Peninsula from Tokyo offers a refreshing break filled with natural beauty and cultural experiences. What makes this trip especially convenient is the quick Shinkansen ride to Atami Station, which takes just around 30 minutes, making it an ideal getaway for those who want to explore Japan's scenic side without spending hours on the road. Based on my experience following a similar itinerary, having a private driver can truly elevate the trip, especially if you want to avoid the hassle of driving yourself. While the driver mentioned only speaks Chinese, if you are comfortable with a translator app or know someone who does, their responsiveness and local knowledge make them a great resource for navigating the area efficiently. Day one offers a fantastic start with a visit to Mt Omuru, where the chairlift ride not only provides stunning panoramic views but also fun activities like archery to engage in. The Izu Shaboten Zoo is a unique highlight where interactive animal feeding sessions add memorable moments to your journey. The day concludes perfectly at Hama no Yu onsen hotel, where soaking in an oceanview onsen while enjoying exquisite local cuisine is a rejuvenating experience. On day two, the Kawazu Waterfalls are a must-see attraction, renowned for their beauty and easy accessibility. The Dogashima Skylight boat tour presents a spectacular view of dramatic cliffs and sea caves, offering a different perspective of the coastline. One can also explore the Tombolo sandbar during low tide — a rare natural phenomenon where you can literally walk across the sea. Ending the day at Futaritowani no En hotel, featuring rooms with Mt. Fuji views and private onsens, adds an extra touch of luxury and relaxation. The half-day tour on day three to Toi Gold Mine combined with the opportunity to pan for crystals and gold is quite an engaging experience, especially if you are interested in local history and unique hobbies. Wrapping up with a stroll and shopping session around Atami Station allows for last-minute souvenirs and enjoying the local atmosphere before heading back to Tokyo. Overall, this itinerary blends adventure, relaxation, and cultural experiences seamlessly. For travelers planning a short trip near Tokyo, the Izu Peninsula is a hidden gem that offers diverse attractions, from animal encounters and scenic trails to historical sites and hot springs. Don’t forget to check tide schedules ahead of time if you want to walk the Tombolo sandbar safely, and consider booking accommodations with private onsen to make your stay even more memorable.

Even though it was late March, there was still melted snow on the ground, so some areas were a little slippery to walk (need proper shoes/boots). There were so many tall trees in town that makes it really nice to walk around. It's usually a summer vacation place for the locals as there are many

We tried to time both snow + Sakura but we kinda failed 🥲 Kawazu Sakura are early-blooming cherry trees which typically bloom from early February to early March in Kawazu/Izu Peninsula area. Unfortunately, we were at the tail end and kinda missed most of them :( I rate this trip 7/10 because (1

nikko is known for autumn leaves, but since it's a mountainous area, it meant that the temp is lower and peak bloom is later than central tokyo. I wanted to try my luck hunting for cherry blossoms (there were multiple trees!!!) The expense breakdown, info about the Nikko all area pass, info
