DECOMPRESS WITH ME AFTER WORK ٩(˘◡˘)۶
maybe it’s just me but for some reason when I get out of work I find it so hard to *actually* relax when I get home. as a high school teacher, im still “on go” even when I have no reason to be, which just eats up my actual relaxing time.
so here are a few ways I’ve found to help actually wind down and be calm(er) after work.
1. Change out of your work clothes.
I feel like part of the reason why im still running around as soon as I get home is because I’m still in the same outfit I taught in. now, as soon as I get home I change into a clean comfy tshirt and pants. I try not to make it -too- comfy though or else I’ll immediately just want to go to bed.
2. Soak your breakfast/lunch dishes.
If you pack lunch like me, take them out of your bag as soon as you’re home and let them soak. this goes for any chore you need to get done, just start them for now and set yourself up good for later. for example, if you have laundry to do pile it altogether so when you do start your chores you have one less thing to do.
3. Make an EASY snack.
the point of decompressing is to do as LITTLE as possible. my snack of choice today was chips and dip, two items, no prep time and two dishes to wash. I usually otp for healthier snacks like granola and fruit but I was craving salty today and who am I to deny myself? if you survived a work day you deserve a nice little snack. remember, little prep time combined with whatever you’re craving.
4. Do something for YOU
this one is a little vague for a reason. all day you’ve been at work or school doing everything for everyone else. for one hour, do something for no other reason than because it is for YOU. whether it’s video games, reading, a nap, yoga/pilates, as long as it’s because you want to do it. try to do this for an hour at least.
5. (Bonus) Check in with yourself.
this can be as informal as talking to yourself or as formal as a sitting down and opening a notebook. but ask yourself a few questions to help yourself reflect on today. this will give you insight on how to tackle tomorrow! some questions can be;
1. what can I say/write about today?
2. did I forget or push anything to a later time?
3. is there anything I can do today to help myself tomorrow?
5. what’s something memorable that happened today (good bad and mundane)
I hope all my anxiety ADHD executive dysfunction baddies save this because YOU DESERVE REST! give it to yourself. until next time :)~

After a busy day at work—especially for educators or high-intensity jobs—it's vital to practice self-care and relaxation techniques. Changing your clothes can psychologically mark a transition from work to personal time. Consider preparing an easy snack that satisfies your cravings; it should require minimal effort, allowing you to focus on relaxation rather than meal prep. Additionally, take an hour to engage in activities exclusively for you—whether that’s playing video games, reading, or doing yoga. This personal time is crucial for emotional recovery and maintaining mental health. As you decompress, reflect on your day by asking yourself insightful questions: What made today memorable? Did you postpone tasks to tomorrow? This reflection will help you unwind while planning a smoother day ahead. Creating a calming environment at home, such as playing soothing music or dimming lights, can enhance your relaxing experience. It's essential to set aside time just for yourself, promoting a rejuvenating end to your day. Remember, you’ve earned this time to recharge—listen to your needs and embrace that well-deserved rest!

Thank you! This is really productive and chill after work routine!
