Grade 9 Question 5 English language paper 1.
I started revising English Language around Easter and still got a Grade 9, including 40/40 in Paper 1 Question 5.
At first I was trying to do everything, different stories, different ideas and it just wasn’t working properly.
What actually changed things for me was focusing on Question 5 instead of spending my time across everything. I realised it’s the one part of the paper where you can really move your grade.
Instead of writing a new story every time, I built one strong idea that I could adapt to different questions. I kept improving it , changing the description, fixing the structure, making the ending stronger and just refining it over time.
By the time I went into the exam, I already knew how I was going to open it, how I’d build tension, and how I’d end it. I wasn’t sitting there trying to come up with ideas under pressure.
That’s honestly what made the difference and why I got full marks in Question 5.
I’ve included my actual GCSE answer in the guide as well as the examiner’s marking, so you can see exactly how it reached 40/40 and what makes it top band.
Full guide in my pin comment and in my bio.
