I’m a hairstylist & here’s my unpopular opinions
I’ve been a hairstylist for 6 years, and as time has gone on I’ve gained some unpopular opinions. For me my job is to look and make you feel your best, not to judge you or sell you on things.
Here’s my opinions 👇🏻
1) “you absolutely can never color your hair at home”
• It’s your hair and you should feel free to do whatever you want with it. Is the quality of your color going to be as good as a salon? No is there room for things to go wrong? Absolutely, but who am I to tell you what you can and can’t do with your hair? As long as you have realistic expectations on what is possible when/if you come back into the salon then i don’t see a problem with it. Also your hairstylist should never shame you for things you’ve done to your own hair, we’re here to get you as close to your desired results (with in reason) not to judge!
2) “your color and cut have to be based on your face shape”
• While face shape theory is definitely a thing, I’m a firm believer in if you like a style then let’s try it! Just because it isn’t the “perfect” cut for your face shape doesn’t mean you won’t rock it! Your hair is such a personal defining feature so there should be no rules on what you can and can’t do with it. If you have the confidence to pull off a look then no one can ever tell you that it doesn’t suit you! There’s no right, wrong, or rules when it comes to how you choose to express yourself through your hair!
3) “ you can only use salon grade products”
• Again my opinion on this is similar to the first one. Some people don’t have the budget to splurge on luxury products and that’s okay. If it’s working for you then don’t feel like you need to change it unless you want to. Obviously if you ask my opinion on products I’m going to give you recommendations of salon grade products that are my tried and true only because that’s what I know works. Personally I don’t sell products so my recommendations are always honest, but if it’s not broke don’t fix it.

Confidence plays a vital role in how a hairstyle is perceived, and the freedom to try new styles can be empowering. Finally, when it comes to products, the belief that only salon-grade products are effective is being challenged. Many budget-friendly alternatives can deliver great results, and not every hair type requires high-end treatment. It's essential to find what works for you and your financial situation, ultimately making you feel confident in your hair care choices.
My hair is think and easily breaks I need a good routine that won’t dry out and damage my hair even more and sometimes stylists don’t help out
