POV: maintaining long haired cat 🐈
One of the toughest things about owning a long hair cat is the maintenance that needs to be done on the fur.
Every year, my cat gets the most terrible matts he won’t let me get out unless I’m stealthy about it. I try to pet him with one hand and brush him with the other. He still tries swatting at me and biting me from time to time. The best time is when he’s sleeping and I can cut some of them out.
Maintaining the fur of a long hair cat like 'My long hair cat' requires patience and the right techniques to keep their coat healthy and comfortable. Mats can form easily, especially if a cat dislikes grooming sessions, making it essential to establish a calm routine. Many cat owners find that brushing their cat regularly—ideally daily—not only reduces the chance of matting but also helps strengthen the bond with their pet. Using a quality slicker brush or comb designed for long hair cats can gently remove loose fur and prevent tangles from forming. When mats develop, it's important to approach them carefully to avoid causing pain or distress. Some cats are wary and may swat or bite if they feel vulnerable, so brushing during nap times, as described, is a smart strategy. If mats are severe, slowly and gently working through them with detangling sprays or specialized grooming tools can help. In some cases, carefully trimming the mats can be necessary, but it should be done cautiously to prevent injury. Additionally, maintaining your cat's overall health supports a healthier coat. Feeding a balanced diet rich in omega fatty acids promotes skin and fur health. Regular vet checkups can help identify any underlying skin conditions or allergies that might contribute to excessive matting. Remember, grooming your long hair cat is not just about aesthetics but about their comfort and wellbeing. Patience, consistency, and understanding your cat's behavior can make grooming a bonding ritual rather than a stressful chore.

I brush my cat every day yet she STILL somehow gets matts that I have to cut out. I blame the kitten lol
