Protecting What’s Mine by Lucy Score follows Fire Chief Lincoln “Linc” and flight trauma doctor Mackenzie “Mack” and honestly? This book had me hooked from page one.
They first meet at a fiery accident, and for Linc it’s immediate full on love at first sight with “Doc Dreamy.” Mack, however, wants absolutely nothing to do with “Chief Sexy Pants”… at least at first 😏
The banter between these two is top tier fun, flirty, and laugh out loud good. It stays light and playful until the spice hits, and when it does? Lucy Score does not miss 🔥
I absolutely loved the addition of Linc’s nieces and nephew they added so much heart to the story. And Sunshine (the goodest girl 🐶) Instant favorite.
For Mack, opening up and letting people in doesn’t come easily. She’s used to being on her own, emotionally guarded, and focused solely on survival. Watching her slowly transform and build connections was one of my favorite parts of the book.
Overall, I loved this story romantic, spicy, emotional, and comforting all at once. I’m officially adding the rest of this series to my TBR and cannot wait to dive back into this world.

Read moreReading "Protecting What’s Mine" has been a genuinely immersive experience that combines emotional depth with light-hearted moments, making it stand out in the contemporary romance genre. One aspect that particularly resonated with me was how Lucy Score crafts her characters—not just as romantic leads but individuals with realistic vulnerabilities and growth arcs. Mackenzie, for instance, navigates her role as a flight trauma doctor who is understandably guarded due to the high-stress realities of her job. Watching her slowly open up, especially through her interactions with Linc and his family, brings a refreshing authenticity to the storyline.
Another highlight is the seamless way the author incorporates small-town charm into the plot. From the lively banter to the presence of Linc’s nieces and nephew, these details enrich the narrative and make the community feel like a character in its own right. The inclusion of Sunshine, the beloved dog, adds warmth and a touch of humor, reminding readers of the comfort found in family and pets.
The dynamics between Linc and Mack exhibit a perfect balance of playful teasing and genuine connection, which builds anticipation and keeps readers engaged. The 'spicy' moments are well-paced and contribute to the story’s emotional intensity without overwhelming the tender developments.
For fans of romance novels who appreciate character-driven stories with a mix of humor, heart, and steamy moments, "Protecting What’s Mine" is a perfect pick. It’s also a great introduction to Lucy Score’s broader series, promising readers a continued journey through the lives of these compelling characters.
