Karen didn’t flinch at first—just blinked slowly, like the words hadn’t quite landed yet. Then her lips curled, not into a smile, but something sharper. Something mean.
“Respect?” Karen let out a dry laugh, folding her arms across her chest. “Don’t rewrite history now, Bambi. You tolerated me. There’s a difference.”
Bambi stepped closer, her jaw tight, eyes burning. “Nah. I respected you. Even when I peeped the little slick comments, the fake smiles. I gave you grace.”
“Grace?” Karen scoffed. “Please. You gave me side-eyes and attitude every chance you got. Let’s not act innocent.”
“That’s because something always felt off about you,” Bambi snapped. “And look at you now—proving me right.”
The room grew heavy, the kind of silence that felt like it could crack glass.
Karen tilted her head, studying Bambi like she was finally seeing her clearly. “You wanna know the truth?” she said, her voice dropping. “I didn’t pretend to like you. I just didn’t think you were worth the energy to hate.”
That hit.
Bambi’s expression shifted—just for a second—but it was enough. Hurt, quick and sharp, before the anger came flooding back stronger.
“You got me messed up,” she said lowly. “All that fake cordial shit, smiling in my face, being around me like it was cool—nah, that’s snake behavior.”
Karen took a step forward now, closing the space between them. “And what are you gonna do about it?”
Bambi didn’t answer right away. Her fists clenched at her sides, breathing uneven.
“Say it with your chest,” Karen pressed, her voice almost a whisper now—but dangerous. “Since you got so much to say.”
Bambi leaned in just enough, their faces inches apart.
“I don’t deal with fake,” she said. “And now that I see you clearly… I promise you, I won’t ever mistake you for real again.”
Karen’s eyes flickered—just a hint.
But then—
A door slammed somewhere behind them.
Both women turned.
And whoever just walked in… clearly heard everything.
Errol stepped in quick, hands raised like he was trying to catch something before it shattered.
“Ladies, ladies—” he started, his voice firm but edged with tension.
“Check your mother!” Bambi snapped, her voice cracking through the room as she pointed straight at Karen. Her chest was heaving, eyes locked in like she was daring somebody to move.
Karen’s expression shifted instantly, the attitude sharpening into something colder. “Watch your mouth,” she said lowly. “You don’t talk to me like that.”
“Or what?” Bambi shot back, taking a step forward. “You gon’ keep doing what you been doing? Smiling in my face like everything sweet?”
Errol stepped between them now, placing a hand out to keep distance. “Bambi, chill. You not about to talk to my moms like that.”
Bambi let out a bitter laugh, shaking her head. “See, that’s the problem right there. You worried about how I’m talking instead of why I’m talking.”
Karen folded her arms, chin lifted. “Because there is no ‘why.’ You’re being disrespectful for no reason.”
“For no reason?” Bambi echoed, her voice dropping, more dangerous now than loud. “All them slick comments… the looks… the fake energy every time I walk in a room? You think I don’t notice that?”
Errol glanced back at his mother, then at Bambi, clearly caught in the middle. “Ma… you said something to her?”
Karen’s silence stretched just a second too long.
That was enough.
Bambi nodded slowly, like something inside her finally clicked into place. “Exactly,” she muttered. “That’s all I needed.”
“Don’t start twisting things,” Karen cut in quickly, but her voice didn’t carry the same confidence as before.
Errol frowned, tension settling into his face. “Nah, hold on… what’s really going on?”
Bambi wiped at her face in frustration, pacing once before turning back to him. “What’s going on is your mother been fake with me since day one, and I kept it respectful for you. But I’m done with that.”
Karen scoffed again, but there was a crack in it now. “If you felt that way, you should’ve said something sooner instead of acting brand new.”
“I am saying something now,” Bambi snapped.
The room went quiet again—but this time it wasn’t just tension.
It was a line being drawn.
Errol looked between both women, jaw tight, realizing this wasn’t something he could smooth over with a few calm words.
“Somebody needs to tell the truth,” he said slowly.
And the way Karen and Bambi both went still—
It was clear the next words said in that room were about to change everything.
