Part 1
The music from the block party thumped through the crowded street while people laughed around them, completely unaware of the tension standing between Ivy and Ty.
Ty’s eyes slowly dropped to Ivy’s pregnant belly. The usual cocky look on her face disappeared for a second.
“This baby could’ve been yours,” Ivy said with a shrug, cold and emotionless.
Ty clenched her jaw.
“You always know how to hit below the belt,” she muttered.
Before Ivy could respond, somebody suddenly yelled from across the street.
“YO, TY!”
A black SUV came speeding around the corner way too fast for a neighborhood block party. Tires screeched. Music cut off. People scattered out the way screaming.
Ty’s entire face changed.
Not fear.
Panic.
Ivy noticed it instantly.
“You know them?” she asked slowly.
Ty grabbed Ivy’s wrist hard enough to make her flinch.
“We need to leave. Right now.”
The SUV doors swung open before Ivy could pull away. Three men hopped out dressed in black. One of them pointed directly at Ty.
“There she go.”
Ivy’s heart dropped.
“What the hell did you get yourself into?” she whispered.
Ty looked at her with guilt all over her face.
“It was never supposed to follow me here.”
Then Ivy froze completely when the tallest man looked directly at her stomach and said—
“Nah… that’s impossible.”
The man slowly pulled out his phone, showing Ty a picture.
A sonogram picture.
The exact same one Ivy had posted months ago to a private page.
Ty looked sick.
“How did y’all even get that?” she asked quietly.
The man smirked.
“Because the baby ain’t the only thing y’all been lied to about.”
The air around them shifted.
Ivy stepped back instinctively, one hand going to her stomach. “What are you talking about?” she demanded, her voice sharp but shaking underneath.
Ty didn’t look at her this time. She was staring at the man holding the phone like she already knew the answer—and hated it.
The tall man tilted his head. “You really didn’t tell her?”
Ty swallowed hard. “I was going to handle it.”
“Handle what?” Ivy snapped. “Ty, what is he talking about?”
The man scrolled on his phone and held it up again. This time it wasn’t just the sonogram.
It was a lab report.
A DNA test header… with Ty’s name on it.
And another name Ivy didn’t recognize listed as the father.
Ivy blinked at it, then looked at Ty like she couldn’t process what she was seeing. “No… that’s not possible.”
Ty finally spoke, quieter now. “I didn’t want you involved. I didn’t want any of this near you.”
The crowd behind them was still screaming, people still running, but everything felt muffled—like Ivy was underwater.
Then one of the men in black stepped forward.
“Package was never just Ty,” he said flatly. “It was both of you.”
Ivy frowned. “Package?”
The tallest man’s smile widened slightly. “You didn’t think that baby was random, did you?”
Ty’s grip tightened around Ivy’s wrist again, but this time it wasn’t to pull her away.
It was to steady her.
Because Ivy suddenly felt it—something warm and sticky sliding down Ty’s sleeve.
Blood.
Her eyes dropped.
Ty had been hit.
A small wound in her side she hadn’t even reacted to until now.
“I tried to keep you out of this,” Ty whispered, voice cracking for the first time. “But they’ve been watching you longer than me.”
Ivy’s breathing turned shallow. “Watching me for what?”
The man lifted his gun slightly—not aiming yet, just reminding them it was there.
“For the heir,” he said. “And the truth Ty stole.”
A phone buzzed in Ivy’s pocket.
Unknown number.
One new message:
DON’T TRUST TY. THE BABY ISN’T EVEN THE FIRST ONE.
